Značilnost Out of the Box dogodkov je sproščena forma seminarjev, predavanj in drugega načina podajanja informacij, ki so v klasičnem dojemanju v večini primerov kompleksne in težje razumljive. Serijo Out of the Box sestavljajo vsakomesečni seminarji, bienalna konferenca, študentski seminar in laboratorij. Out of the Box Seminar (OBS) je namenjen predstavitvi novih, drznih idej akademski in širši
javnosti. Na OBS, ki poteka zadnjo sredo v mesecu ob 17h, gostimo 1-3 predavatelje različnih profilov: akademike, raziskovalce, znanstvenike, profesionalce in umetnike. Sledi diskusija in družabni večer, ki je odlična priložnost za povezovanje in navezovanje stikov. Out of the Box Conference (OBC) je bienalno interdisciplinarno srečanje, ki skuša s strokovnjaki iz različnih ozadij identificirati ključne probleme in ovire, ki omejujejo našo družbo in celoten planet na poti k boljšemu življenju ter poiskali inovativne rešitve, ki bi omogočile preseči kompleksne probleme, ki ovirajo našo civilizacijo pri razvoju. Eden izmed ciljev konference je tudi razviti sistem svetovne komunikacije skozi interdisciplinarnost široko razmišljujočih strokovnjakov, ki bodo delili svoje nove, sveže in nekovencionalne ideje »izven škatle«. Prva konferenca leta 2012 je zajemala 30 govorcev, od tega 3 Nobelove nagrajence in okoli 850 gostov. Out of the Box Youth (OBY) je enodnevni dogodek, kjer v krajših predstavitvah svoje ideje predstavljajo mladi, ki so zaradi že doseženih rezultatov ali dokazanih talentov dober zgled ne samo mladim, ampak širši družbi. Out of the Box Lab (OBL) prenaša fizikalne, kemijske in druge znanstvene eksperimente iz laboratorijev v širše okolje in s tem prikazuje zabavno plat znanosti, sočasno pa vzpodbuja zavedanje javnosti, da nam znanost koristi v vsakdanjem življenju. Začetki zgodbe Out of the Box segajo v leto 2010, ko je v zavedanju pomembnosti povezovanja različnih znanosti, družboslovja in umetnosti ter problematike približevanja teh področij vsakdanjemu življenju in javnosti Danijel Rebolj ustanovil koncept Out of the Box s prvim seminarjem na Univerzi v Mariboru. V naslednjem letu je vodenje prevzel Marko Samec in skupaj z mlado ekipo zgodbo nadgrajujejo tako vsebinsko kot tudi tehnično in produkcijsko. Od marca 2010 potekajo seminarji OBS vsako zadnjo sredo v mesecu in do poletja 2012 se je zvrstilo že več kot 30 govorcev. Celotna zgodba se je v letu 2012 obogatila s konferenco OBC, ki je zajemala 30 govorcev z vsega sveta, od tega 3 Nobelove nagrajence, in okoli 850 gostov. Zgodilo se je tudi sodelovanje s TEDx in gostovanje na TEDxMaribor 2012, prvi študentski dogodek OBStudents in eksperimenti na prostem OBLab v sodelovanju s Hišo znanosti.

An important idiosyncrasy of Out of the Box events is a relaxed form of seminars, lectures and other ways of presenting information perceived as complex and difficult to understand. Out of the Box consists of monthly seminars, a biennial conference, student seminar and student workshops. Out of the Box Seminar (OBS) is devoted to the presentation of new, bold ideas to the academic and wider public. OBS, which takes place the last Wednesday of the month at 17h, hosts 1-3 lecturers of different profiles: academics, researchers, scientists, professionals and artists. Each speaker presents his "Out of the Box" idea in a half-hour seminar. Followed by discussion and social gathering, also designed for networking. Out of the Box Conference (OBC) is a biennial meeting of experts from different fields, aiming to identify key problems and obstacles that restrict our society and the planet on a path to a better life. OBC seeks innovative solutions, enabling us to overcome complex problems, hindering the development of our civilization. Furthermore the conference attempts to develop a system of global communication through interdisciplinary wide thinking professionals who share their new, fresh and non-conventional out of the box ideas. Out of the Box Youth (OBY) is a one-day event, where in a form of shorter presentations, young people present their out of the box ideas. These are students who have already achieved results or proven talent and are a good example not just to their fellows but also to the society. Out of the Box Lab (OBL) transfers the physical, chemical and other scientific experiments from laboratories to the wider environment and shows the fun side of science. At the same time it encourages public awareness of the benefits of science in our everyday life. The inception of Out of the Box dates back to 2010, when by realizing the importance of integration of different sciences, social sciences and arts with issues of convergence of these fields to everyday life and the public, Daniel Rebolj founded the concept of Out of the Box with its first seminar at the University of Maribor. In the following year Marko Samec took over management and with a young team they write new chapters in the Out of the Box story. Doing so by editing and upgrading the content, technical aspects and production. From March 2010 OBSeminars were held every last Wednesday of the month; by the summer of 2012, OBS presented more than 30 speakers. 2012 was a breakout year, as the whole story was enriched with the OBConference, a conference hosting 30 speakers from around the world, including three Nobel laureates, and about 850 guests. Furthermore it was a year of new ideas. Out of the Box started cooperating with TEDx and hosted at TEDxMaribor 2012, had its first student event (OBStudents) and presented science through outdoor experiments at the OBLab in cooperation with the House of science.
