One last piece of news from our closing ceremony. FoodMicro has a new host.

We are delighted to announce that Konrad Domig (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), Martin Wagner (Vetmeduni / FFoQSI) and JΓΌrgen Marchart (FFoQSI) have been awarded host status for the next FoodMicro conference.

πŸ—“οΈ Vienna, 29 August – 1 September 2028.

Congratulations to the Austrian team on a successful application. Hosting FoodMicro is a considerable undertaking, and we can say from recent experience that it is worth every hour of it.

The photograph says it best: representatives of the Ljubljana team (Peter Raspor, Sonja Smole MoΕΎina, Elizabeta MičoviΔ‡, Andrej Ovca) and of the Vienna team (Konrad Domig and Martin Wagner), together at the moment the baton changed hands, in the presence of Andreja Rajkovic, Full Professor, ICFMH president, ex IAAS.

It opened with music played on a reconstruction of a 60,000-year-old flute, followed by warm and inspiring speeches and the first plenary lecture.

ICFMH is pleased to announce a Travel Fellowship programme to support the global food microbiology community and promote broader participation in FoodMicro 2026.

Who Can Apply?
This fellowship programme gives particular attention and support to:
βœ… Students pursuing degrees in food microbiology and related fields
βœ… Early-career researchers launching their scientific careers
βœ… Eligible participants from UN-designated "least developed countries" – where travel funding may be a barrier to participation
