The University of Ljubljana Debate Society (UL Debate Society) is an organization, which draws onto the legacy of the debate community fostered among students of the University of Ljubljana in the last decade. In its endeavors UL Debate Society extends the working of the debate clubs across the different faculties of University of Ljubljana, which have in the past been the cornerstone of debate at the university level via their debate coaching, advocacy training, public debates and tournament organizing. The UL Debate Society preserves the autonomy of the faculty debate clubs, while conjoining and synchronizing their work for a university-wide augmented reach and effectiveness. Additionally, across the university the UL Debate Society organizes other university-level debate events, among other local, regional and national tournaments as well as weekly debate practice meetings for student debaters. On the outside the UL Debate Society acts as a platform for the debaters’ interests to be realized as the intermediate between the international and national debate communities. It both advertises and helps select the teams from our own ranks, which are sent on international events, such as tournaments, meetings, councils etc. UL Debate Society welcomes all students who favor non-violent, argumentative and articulate approaches to small- and global-scale issue discussions, resolutions and proposals.
