Letos ima ta dan posebno težo: obeležujemo ga v letu 75. obletnice Konvencije o statusu beguncev iz leta 1951 – temeljnega mednarodnega dokumenta, ki določa, kdo je begunec, ter katere pravice, zaščito in pomoč mora prejeti človek, ki je bil prisiljen zapustiti svoj dom.
Konvencija je nastala po drugi svetovni vojni kot obljuba, da ljudje, ki bežijo pred preganjanjem, vojno in nasiljem, ne smejo ostati brez zaščite. Ta obljuba danes ni nič manj pomembna. Prav nasprotno – v času vojn, razseljenosti, zapiranja meja in naraščajočega strahu pred drugim je pomembno, da se spomnimo: pravica do varnosti ni privilegij. Je človekova pravica.
Ob tej priložnosti smo pripravili dve razstavi na dveh lokacijah, posvečeni zgodbam begunk, ki živijo v Sloveniji.
Razstavi predstavljata osebne zgodbe žensk, ki so morale zapustiti svoje domove, a so si v Sloveniji zgraile nov dom. Spodaj si lahko ogledate eno od šestih zgodb. Zgodba Rose je težka, a pokaže, kaj se pravzaprav skriva za besedo "begunka" in "begunec".

Today, 20 June, we mark World Refugee Day.
This year, the day carries particular significance: we mark it in the year of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees – a fundamental international document that defines who a refugee is, and what rights, protection and assistance must be granted to a person who has been forced to leave their home.
The Convention was created after the Second World War as a promise that people fleeing persecution, war and violence must not be left without protection. This promise is no less important today. Quite the opposite – at a time of wars, displacement, closing borders and growing fear of the other, it is important to remember: the right to safety is not a privilege. It is a human right.
On this occasion, we have prepared two exhibitions at two locations, dedicated to the stories of refugee women living in Slovenia.
The exhibitions present the personal stories of women who were forced to leave their homes, but have built a new home for themselves in Slovenia. Rose’s story is a difficult one, but it reveals what truly lies behind the words “refugee woman” and “refugee.”
