Zavod APIS/Institute APIS was established as socially engaged institute with a vision to promote social inclusion and empowerment of those most vulnerable and marginalized. Primarily we focus our work on using creative tools to encourage social inclusion of vulnerable groups. As tools of empowerment we are mainly using video, photography, multi/trans media and new technologies. The goals we are pu

rsuing are knowledge transference and giving voice to the socially excluded or marginalized. We use accessible and inclusive methodologies as participatory video, documentary video making, documentary photography, mobile video filmmaking…

We have created and co-produced several documentaries and produced photo and transmedia exhibitions. In this frame we produced the first transmedia exhibition in Slovenia titled Migration (2014). We are making further steps and plan to incorporate new, but accessible technologies into our creative and socially responsible work even deeper. We would also like to share the knowledge we have gained and develop it further in terms of social entrepreneurship and raising employability.

Izvajalki: Thandiwe Ketiš, Mariska Slekovec

Na seminarju, ki ga je zasnoval AFROskop, so starši otrok afriških in slovensko-afriških korenin izvedeli več o pomenu nege in oblikovanja las v širšem socialnem in kulturnem kontekstu, o posebnostih afro-teksturiranih las, o praktičnih metodah nege — od umivanja in razčesavanja do oblikovanja — ter o razumevanju primernosti sestavin v izdelkih za nego las. Imeli so tudi priložnost zastaviti vprašanja iz vsakdanjega življenja, povezana z lasmi.

Seminar sta vodili Thandiwe Ketiš (Zedian Hair with Thandi), strokovnjakinja za nego afro las, po rodu iz Zambije, ter Mariska Slekovec, doktorica medicine in doktorantka javnega zdravja, ki prihaja z Barbadosa.

🤎Vsebino seminarja o afro laseh sta pripravili Thandiwe Ngoma Ketiš in Mariska Slekovec. Sabina Banic je sodelovanje z izvajalkami koordinirala za AFROskop, delavnico je organiziral APIS Institute / Zavod APIS, aktivnosti pa gostil Center Rog. Seminar za starše je potekal sočasno z delavnicami za dekleta afriških in slovensko-afriških korenin, ki jih redno organizira Jasna Gabrovšek za Zavod APIS.

📸 From the seminar 👑 My Hair – My Crown 🌍
Facilitators: Thandiwe Ketiš and Mariska Slekovec

At the seminar, designed by AFROskop, parents of children of African and Slovenian-African heritage learned more about the importance of hair care and styling in a broader social and cultural context, the specific characteristics of afro-textured hair, practical care methods — from washing and detangling to styling — and how to better understand which ingredients are suitable in hair care products. They also had the opportunity to ask questions related to everyday situations involving hair.

The seminar was led by Thandiwe Ketiš ( Hair with Thandi) an expert in afro hair care originally from Zambia, and Mariska Slekovec, a medical doctor and public health doctoral researcher from Barbados.

🤎 The seminar content on afro hair was designed by Thandiwe Ngoma Ketiš and Mariska Slekovec in coordination with AFROskop, led by Sabina Banic. The workshop was organised by APIS Institute / Zavod APIS, and the activities were hosted by Center Rog. The seminar for parents took place alongside workshops for girls of African and Slovenian-African heritage, regularly facilitated by Jasna Gabrovšek for Zavod APIS.

Včerajšnja delavnica gledališke improvizacije je odprla prostor za refleksijo izkušenj rasizma za dekleta afriško-slovenskih in afriških korenin. Delavnico je vodila Lina Akif, pomagala pa ji je Jasna Gabrovšek, ki v Zavodu APIS skrbi za izvedbo delavnic za dekleta.
Sočasno z delavnico za dekleta je potekala še delavnica za starše na temo nege afriških las, fotografije bomo objavili v kratkem. Aktivnosti za dekleta v okviru projekta R.A.S.T./A.R.T.S. koordinira Jasna Gabrovšek. Fotografirala je Nino Bektashashvili Photography. Aktivnosti je gostil Center Rog.

We’re grateful for the amazing atmosphere you helped create last night! 🎶✨

Yesterday’s Mediterranean Day concert at Kazina Jazz Club brought together musicians with roots from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, and Croatia — and as they shared the stage in Ljubljana the energy was truly special.

The music was really good: traditional Mediterranean maqam melos mixed seamlessly with urban beats and rap, creating powerful sound scapes stretching between new and deeply rooted. The blend worked really.

Through music and storytelling, the evening highlighted the beauty and complexity of the Mediterranean region and shared a heartfelt expression of support for Palestine. 🇵🇸💙

Musicians with roots in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, and Croatia, who live and create in Slovenia, will bring Mediterranean maqam melos and urban beats that speak of both the beauty and the pain of the region — and symbolically express support for Palestine through music. 🇵🇸💙

Utrinki iz delavnic projekta ROOTS. Predstavitev rezultatov bo 26.11. ob 17h v Mladih zmajih, v enoti Golovec.

Na delavnici bomo predstavili potek in rezultate programa ROOTS, namenjenega dekletom slovensko-afriških korenin, starim od 11 do 15 let. Udeležencem bomo pokazali izbrane aktivnosti iz štirih delavnic (pogovorni krog, pohod, ustvarjalni in
lepotilni kotički, ogled predstave), skupaj s fotografijami in vizualnim gradivom, posnetim med izvedbo. Predstavili bomo tudi ključne ugotovitve evalvacije, ki kažejo na izboljšanje samozavesti, občutek pripadnosti in večjo povezanost med
udeleženkami. Delavnica je namenjena mladinskim delavcem, ki delajo z mladimi, ki se soočajo z izkušnjo drugačnosti ali jih zanimajo pristopi, ki smo jih uporabili za krepitev varnega prostora, grajenja skupnosti in opolnomočenja. Delavnica bo potekala v soorganizaciji Zavoda APIS in Mladih zmajec v sodelovanju z mentoricama programa Maša Kagao Knez in Irena Yebuah-Tiran. Zaradi odsotnosti vodje projekta Jasna Gabrovšek bo rezultate evalvacij predstavila Romana Zajec. Vabljeni!

🎭 V Slovenskem mladinskem gledališču si bomo ogledali predstavo Prepelka – zgodba za vso družino.
