HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York visited Slovenia in mid 2007 in his role as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade & Investment. Prince Andrew travels extensively promoting Britain and British business. His Royal Highness recommended that it would be good to have a British Chamber of Commerce in Slovenia, and with the British Ambassador’s agreement and the assistance and energy of the President of COBCOE, Mr. Howard Rosen . Mr. Rosen again visited us in Slovenia in November 2007 to attend a ‘development’ meeting with possible representatives of a British Chamber of Commerce. Attending the lunch at the British Ambassador’s residence were other British business people based in Slovenia, Slovenian citizens representing British companies in Slovenia, and Slovenian companies in the UK. Based on this inaugural meeting, a further meeting was held at the British Embassy in Ljubljana in late November 2007. At this meeting, the representatives present appointed Kevin Morrison, Stephen Fish and David Smith to start the establishment process. With the dedicated assistance of our embassy, our appointed representatiave and one of our founder members, the legal and tax consulting company Taxgroup d.o.o. in Ljubljana (www.taxgroup.si), the intensive legal work to establish the BSCC began.

⚕️ Adult vaccination remains one of the most underused preventive measures in Slovenia, despite its potential to reduce the burden of disease, support healthy ageing, and contribute to a more resilient society.

This was one of the key messages of the health symposium we organised yesterday at Zdravniška zbornica Slovenije.

𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗞 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲.

🔹Dr Catherine Heffernan (NHS South West London) shared the UK's experience with adult vaccination programmes, highlighting the importance of accessibility, clear recommendations, trusted healthcare professionals, and coordinated action across the healthcare system. Vaccine hesitancy often stems from misinformation, lack of trust, and practical barriers rather than outright opposition to vaccination.

🔹Simon Brassel (Office of Health Economics) presented evidence showing that the benefits of adult vaccination extend far beyond healthcare. Vaccination can reduce hospitalisations and mortality, support workforce participation and productivity, and generate significant value for society. When these broader societal effects are taken into account, adult vaccination programmes can generate returns of up to 19 times the original investment.

Thank you to all speakers for an excellent discussion, and to our Main Partner GSK and Partner Pfizer for their support.

Only two weeks to go: What can employers do to support healthier teams and a more resilient workforce? ⚕️

As the workforce ages, prevention is becoming increasingly relevant for companies. Infectious diseases can affect not only individuals and healthcare systems, but also teams, productivity, and day-to-day business operations.

We have officially merged our former UK Trade Council and Investors’ Council into the new 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹.

This merger reflects the growing overlap between trade, investment, competitiveness, regulation, and market access, and creates a stronger platform for BSCC members to address shared business priorities.

At its first session, members also confirmed the appointment of:
🔹 Gregor Tim Grünfeld, Uniko – Co-Chair
🔹 Aleš Šifrer, Arriva Slovenija – Co-Chair
🔹 Azra Begič Milanez, A Tax International – Expert Council Facilitator

The Council will continue its work aimed at promoting international trade, developing concrete proposals to improve the business environment in Slovenia, and strengthening dialogue with decision-makers.

Two of the Council’s proposals have already been included in the coalition agreement, marking a significant achievement in its advocacy efforts. ✅

Thank you to our member Pristop for hosting the session.

👥 What employers do and what headhunters see?

Finding the right employees is not only about filling vacancies. It is about understanding what candidates value, where recruitment processes lose strong candidates, and what makes people stay once they come on board. 🧑‍💼

We wrapped up this week with the 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 session, where we heard from both employers and headhunters on what is happening in today’s talent market:

🔹 A poor hiring process can be costly and affect far more than the role itself, from team dynamics and trust to overall business performance.

🔹 Headhunting is also about matchmaking. The best fit is rarely perfect on paper, so the real value lies in understanding the person, the role, the team, and the company behind the vacancy.

🔹 Leadership remains one of the strongest factors in retention. People stay where they feel respected, supported, and part of something meaningful.

🔹 Skills are changing fast. Adaptability, resilience, critical thinking, and the ability to work with new tools, including AI, are becoming essential.

With employer perspectives from Mart Dekleva (DKV Mobility Slovenija) & Maja Milinovic (Trimo), with headhunter perspectives from Mateja Čotar (CHR Partners), Simona Špilak (BOC Institute) & Jani Zupan (Profil), and moderatorion by Matic Čad (Odvetniška pisarna ČAD) & Mateja Panjan (Danfoss Trata).

📍 Thank you to Danfoss Trata for hosting us and guiding through us the production facility.

Ljubljana’s next business locations are not only about new office space. They are about creating mixed-use districts that combine workplaces, services, public space, and the quality of everyday urban life. 🏙️

Today’s 𝗧𝗲𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 looked at what this means in practice for investors, developers, employers, and the city.

𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁:
▪️ brownfield redevelopments, such as Emonika, are becoming one of the main ways Ljubljana can create new business districts where offices, services, and public space are well integrated and part of wider urban environments;
▪️ Ljubljana is attracting investor attention, supported by strong demand for modern office space, limited prime supply, and still attractive pricing compared with more mature European markets;
▪️ the success of major urban projects will depend on more streamlined spatial-planning procedures, disciplined financing, long-term investment frameworks, and better coordination between public and private stakeholders;
▪️ modern offices should offer far more than basic functionality, they should also support collaboration, employee wellbeing, sustainability goals and a better experience for both employees and customers.

Thank you to all speakers for sharing their perspectives:
→ 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀: Luka Vesnaver (BSCC & ION Advisory)
→ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸: MSc Miran Gajšek (Ministrstvo za naravne vire in prostor), Spyridon Ntallas (OTP banka, Slovenija), Prof Dr Rajko Pirnat (Pravna fakulteta UL)

→ 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝟮: Wasya Awori (RIKO), Dóra Kenéz (OTP Group Real Estate Fund Management), Matic Kermavnar (CBRE South Eastern Europe), Jana Petek (Novartis in Slovenia), Matej Rigelnik (Equinox nepremičninska družba)
→ 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀: Barbara Uranjek Kozina & Mart D. Buh (BSCC), Vesna Ložak Polanec (Law Firm Ketler & Partners), Mark Vidrih (Pristop)

A special thank you goes to Emonika for making this conference possible. 🙌

Edinburgh is one of the UK’s strongest financial clusters outside London, with a global reputation as a longstanding, resilient financial centre and a city with serious investment expertise. 📈

🇬🇧 So last week, our 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 hopped on the new easyJet flight from Ljubljana to Edinburgh to learn from the best.

The delegation included representatives from Sava Infond, Sava pokojninska, OTP banka, Slovenija, NLB - Nova Ljubljanska banka, NLB Skladi, upravljanje premoženja, d.o.o., Triglav Investments, Generali Investments, družba za upravljanje, A Tax International, Intercapital, UNIKO, and Združenje družb za upravljanje investicijskih skladov GIZ.

Over a packed few days, they heard from Aubrey Capital Management, Kennox Asset Management, Baillie Gifford, Aegon Asset Management, and PXN Group.

And there was a lot to learn. Edinburgh’s long banking history, its role as a major European centre for asset management and asset servicing, its strong base of independent investment boutiques, and its ability to combine financial tradition with highly specialised investment thinking made it the right place for this delegation. 💡

A special thank you goes to our Žiga Fišer for leading the delegation, and to David Semmens from Cadro for all his support in in putting together the Edinburgh program.
