If you are under 30 and living in Slovenia, you probably already have access to one of the most useful travel hacks in Europe—and you might not even know it!

The European Youth Card (EYCA), known locally as the Evropska mladinska kartica, is a discount card that gives you access to over 80,000 benefits across 38 European countries. From cheaper train tickets and museum entries to discounts on hotels, sports facilities, and even coffee shops, this card is designed to make exploring Europe more affordable.

Who is it for?

🌟Students & Pupils: If you have a valid Slovenian student or pupil ID (študentska/dijaška izkaznica), check the front or back. You likely already have an EYCA number printed on it! The card covers 90% of all issued pupil IDs and over 70% of student IDs in Slovenia.

🌟Anyone Aged 15–29: Not a student? No problem. In Slovenia, managed by the non-profit agency SLOAM, the card is available to young people aged 15 to 29 .

🌟ESC Volunteers: As a bonus, if you are participating in the European Solidarity Corps, you can get the card completely free of charge for 18 months.

How do you activate it?

🌟Find your number: Look for the EYCA logo and number on your student/pupil ID.

🌟Download the App: Get the myEYC app (available on iOS and Android).

🌟Register: Enter your EYCA number into the app. That’s it! Your digital card is now active and ready to use .

🌟Explore: Use the app to search for discounts near you in Ljubljana or plan your next trip abroad. You can filter by category (culture, transport, food, etc.) and see exactly where to show your phone to get the deal.

What's covered?

🌟Save Money: Discounts range from 5% to 50%+ depending on the partner.

🌟Ease of Travel: Many transport providers and cultural institutions across Europe recognize the EYCA number directly.

🌟Local Benefits: There are dozens of partners right here in Slovenia offering perks on everyday services.

Good deal, right? Open your student ID, grab your phone, and download the myEYC app today!

Looking to volunteer or get active in the local community? Here are 4 ways to dive in:

1️⃣ Drop by a Youth Center: Youth centers are the heart of local community. They're hubs for creative workshops, street-based youth work, and informal hangouts where you can easily jump in as a volunteer. They're also great places to drop by, meet new friends, and see what’s happening in your neighborhood.

2️⃣ Join an NGO: Many local NGOs focus on social inclusion, mental health, and civic participation. Volunteering here allows you to contribute to meaningful projects, such as supporting vulnerable groups or organizing community events.

3️⃣ Get Creative: If you’re into art, music, or digital media, look for cultural hubs that host exhibitions, open mics, and collaborative projects. These spaces often welcome volunteers who can help with event coordination or content creation.

4️⃣ Connect Internationally: You can also get invovled in international level by volunteering abroad. You can contribute by supporting community projects, helping NGOs, or working with youth and vulnerable groups; all while building experiences that can benefit your personal and professional development.

When Ljubljana decides to give us rain for the 47th time this month… 🌧️

As an ESC volunteer coming from a sunny country, I was not prepared for this much water. But hey - a little rain doesn’t mean your experience has to stop!

Sometimes, bad weather simply gives us a reason to slow down, look at things from a different perspective and discover a different side of the place. It’s a chance to explore new corners of the local culture, find new ways to have fun and make memories we might not have made on a sunny day.

So, if Ljubljana sends rain your way… grab an umbrella, get creative, and enjoy the adventure, or just chill at home! ☔️
