Maria Konopnicka (1842–1910) turned her life into an act of courage. She left an unhappy marriage, raised six children on her own, and made her voice heard through poetry, short stories, and fearless activism. From Warsaw’s social movements to decades of travel across Europe, often alongside artist Maria Dulębianka, Konopnicka refused to shrink herself to fit the rules of her time.

Marcelle Tinayre (1870–1948) wrote love stories that didn’t behave. From La Rebelle to her travel writing, she explored women’s autonomy, desire, and the rules society tried to impose. A co-founder of what became the Prix Femina, she helped reshape who gets to define “great literature.”

✨ From 28 to 30 October 2025, the Women Writers Route – certified by the Council of Europe – together with Ivana’s House of Fairy Tales in Ogulin (Croatia), hosted the international conference “Women’s Path through Fairy Tales.”
Over three inspiring days, writers, scholars and cultural professionals explored how the fairy-tale tradition has shaped women’s voices, identity, and the shared cultural imagination of Europe. 🌍📚
A powerful gathering celebrating storytelling, memory, and the creative legacy of women.

💐 “Through music, suffering, and poetry, she turned her nation’s wounds into song.”

Ljubka Šorli Bratuž (1910–1993) — poet, teacher, and symbol of quiet resistance.
Born in Tolmin, she lived through exile, war, and loss, yet kept composing verses filled with love, faith, and homeland. Her melodic poems became the voice of a people who refused to forget.

Zofka Kveder was more than a writer — she was a movement.
Through her stories, essays, and editorial work, she gave voice to women who refused to remain silent.
A pioneer of Slovene literature and one of the earliest advocates for women’s rights in Central Europe, she believed in education, equality, and creative freedom as the foundations of liberation.

Her life crossed borders — from Ljubljana to Prague and Zagreb — and so did her ideas.
Nearly a century later, her call for women’s autonomy still resonates.
