New Life Stories

New Life Stories New Life Stories is a non-profit organisation that aims to prevent intergenerational incarceration.

New Life Stories was established in 2014 to prevent intergenerational incarceration. New Life Stories is an IPC (Institution of Public Character) non-profit organisation that aims to provide children of incarcerated parents with essential reading and pro-social skills to ensure that they are not left behind in their crucial early years of development. New Life Stories has put in place a holistic s

trategy targeted at providing support to children of the incarcerated and their families. The programmes aim to provide these children with educational and emotional stability so that they can have a fairer start in school. Their parents are also supported by our customised in-prison programmes to prepare them for their release and to give them the reassurance to successfully reintegrate back into society. New Life Stories also educates and guides the families by providing them with essential tools to be self-sufficient.

Recently, 22 children and 16 adults from six families joined us for a special Photography Workshop at Gardens by the Bay, generously organised by EtonHouse.

Armed with their very own digital cameras, the children learned basic photography skills before setting off to explore the gardens and capture the world through their unique perspectives. Along the way, our dedicated Learning Friend volunteers accompanied and encouraged them as they discovered hidden details in nature, experimented with different angles, and proudly snapped away.

To make the experience even more meaningful, each child received a photo frame to decorate and personalise, creating a special keepsake for their favourite photograph from the day. 🖼️❤️

Beyond learning how to use a camera, the workshop gave our children an opportunity to express their creativity, build confidence, and see beauty through their own lens.

A heartfelt thank you to EtonHouse for creating such a thoughtful and enriching experience for our families. 📷🌱

Some days don’t go according to plan.

Our LADIES Mother’s Day gathering at East Coast Park was met with heavy rain, strong winds, and a fair share of last-minute adjustments. Yet despite the weather, 7 mothers and 12 children showed up. Two mothers who were attending another birthday celebration nearby even dropped by to spend time with the group ❤️

As we sheltered from the rain, shared a meal, and worked together to set up the space, something meaningful happened.

We witnessed deeper conversations. Mothers opening up about their challenges. Shared experiences being met with understanding rather than judgement. Quiet moments of encouragement between women who know what it means to keep going despite life’s difficulties. We also saw growing connections between mothers and their children. By simply being present with one another, relationships continued to strengthen.

Sometimes, community isn’t built during the perfect moments. Sometimes, it’s built when everyone chooses to show up anyway 😊

People are often compassionate towards a child, but much less forgiving towards the adult that child becomes.

By then, the behaviour is seen as a personal failure without recognising the years of instability, disrupted environments, and survival-based coping patterns that shaped it long before adulthood.

At New Life Stories, we focus on early support that can change the trajectory before those patterns take root. Please support the continuation of our work by scanning the QR in the last page, every dollar helps!

To the 13 transcribers and 14 illustrators who responded to our call for help, THANK YOU for showing up for our families with such heart. ❤️

When we put out our call on social media, we were met with an overwhelming response from people willing to give their time and skills to help bring our Dear Mama stories to life.
With a very tight timeline, our volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes to transcribe handwritten stories, illustrate each page with care, and help prepare these books in time for the families.

Today, these books will be brought into prison for our in-prison family bonding session, where children will be accompanied by NLS staff members to meet their moms in prison. During the session, the children will have the chance to read the books their moms wrote for them, while the moms will finally get to share the stories and creations they worked so lovingly on for their children.

To everyone who shared our post, responded, encouraged others, and showed up for us, thank you for being part of this effort to preserve connection, love, and family bonds. We truly could not have done this without you.

During childminding last week, we celebrated two very special birthday boys — brothers who celebrated their birthdays surrounded by their grandmother, youngest brother, and friends from New Life Stories. From singing together to sharing slices of delicious chocolate cake, it was a joyful afternoon filled with warmth, laughter, and celebration.

The children also took part in a pizza-making activity where they had the chance to shop for ingredients together, choose their favourite toppings, and bake their own pizzas in our pantry oven.

At New Life Stories, celebrating milestones like birthdays matters deeply. For many of the children we support, family challenges and difficult circumstances can sometimes make celebrations harder to prioritise. That is why we believe every child deserves moments where they feel seen, remembered, and cherished — surrounded by people who remind them that their joy matters too. ❤️ Happy birthday boys!

Last Saturday, our Blessed Mums Caregivers Support Group came together for an afternoon of creativity and community over a DIY popiah and kueh pie tee-making session — a beloved local snack made with crispy pastry cups filled with savoury vegetables and toppings 🍤

Beyond the activities, it was heartwarming to witness caregivers from different backgrounds bonding over shared experiences, encouraging one another, and finding comfort in a supportive community that understands their journey ❤️

At New Life Stories, we have witnessed the quiet resilience of mothers who keep showing up for their children despite separation, hardship, and uncertainty ❤️

This Mother’s Day, we honour all mothers, especially those walking difficult journeys with courage and heart. Thank you for continuing to choose love, even when the road is not easy.

Happy Mother’s Day. 💛

Recently, our LADIES Mother's support group came together for a meaningful time of connection, care, and community. 13 mothers and 24 children joined us, filling the space with conversations, laughter, and the beautiful chaos that comes when families feel safe enough to simply be together 🫂

Over food and snacks, the mums spent time bonding, catching up, and supporting one another. Around them, the children got busy making friends across families and familiar circles, playing foosball, table tennis, exploring toys from our childminding corner, and simply enjoying the freedom to play.

Moments like these matter more than we often realise.

Strong family support and positive community networks are key protective factors in reducing recidivism and supporting successful reintegration after release. But beyond the facts, evenings like these remind us of something deeply human:
healing often begins in community.

When mothers feel supported, less isolated, and connected to others walking similar journeys, families become stronger and children are given a fairer chance at stability, belonging, and hope.

We’re grateful for every mother, child, and staff member who helped make the space feel warm, welcoming, and full of life. 💛
