Teachers do work that is difficult to measure. A lesson taught today may only make sense to a child years from now. A word of encouragement may be forgotten by the teacher who said it, but remembered for life by the student who needed to hear it.

We ask a lot of our teachers. Teach well. Keep up with technology. Manage expectations. Spot the child who is struggling. Deal with parents. Fill in the forms. Meet the targets. And somewhere in all that, still find the patience to see the person sitting behind the grades. That part of teaching has always mattered to me most.

So on Teacher's Day, thank you to those who keep showing up. Especially the teachers who quietly give a little more to the child who needs a little more. You may never know where that extra kindness leads. But somewhere, years from now, there will be adults carrying something you gave them when they were young.

Happy Teacher's Day!

Emily Woo writes about automation being a double edged sword.

"Automation is a double-edged sword."

What I received in my letterbox today.

Whilst automation offers more convenience to the public, and has enhanced postal operational efficiency manifold, many traditonal job roles have also inevitably been rendered redundant and streamlined or discarded.

Fewer front-line jobs may be needed, and some employees must learn new skills to remain employable. Elderly customers and people who are less familiar with technology may also find self-service machines difficult to use.
