"Toastmasters is becoming more relevant than ever despite the upheavals brought about by AI."

That was one of the key takeaways from the insightful panel discussion at Division M Achievers' Day yesterday.

While AI can help with scripting, research, and other heavy lifting, it cannot replace the human connection that makes communication truly impactful. As Wekie Tay, DTM, aptly shared:

"The same script presented by different speakers on stage will have vastly different impact because of their varied experiences and skills."

As we celebrated the achievements of clubs and members across Division M, we were reminded that Toastmasters provides more than just a platform to practise public speaking and leadership. It offers opportunities for growth, learning, and transformation, but the real results come when members consistently put in the work.

The impact is evident not only on the Toastmasters stage, but also in our personal lives, careers, and leadership journeys.

We are proud that SRC Toastmasters Club was recognised with the Super Club of the Year Award, received on behalf of the club by Anne Lee, Eugene Low, Elita Thia, and Napoleon Koh.

A special congratulations to Eugene Low for being named Division M Area M1 Toastmaster of the Year 2025โ€“2026. ๐ŸŽ‰ Your dedication, service, and commitment to excellence continue to inspire us all.

Here's to continuous learning, effective communication, and leadership growth in an AI-powered world!

SRC TOASTMASTERS CLUB 2D1N GETAWAY TO DESARU JB
16โ€“17 May 2026

As the Toastmasters Year 2025/2026 approaches its close in June, SRC Toastmasters Club embarked on a memorable 2D1N getaway to Desaru and Johor Bahru โ€” a trip filled with fellowship, laughter, food, relaxation, and meaningful connections.

Our heartfelt thanks go to our dedicated President, Ley Lee, for meticulously organizing this timely and enjoyable retreat. A cheerful group of 13 participants, including Toastmasters members and spouses, gathered bright and early on Saturday morning to begin the adventure aboard a spacious luxury coach.

After a smooth immigration clearance at Tuas and Johor checkpoints, the group kicked off the trip with a hearty Malaysian breakfast spread at Mana Cafe JB. Members enjoyed local delights such as nasi lemak, roti prata, mee rebus, laksa, nasi padang, kopi, and tea while bonding over lively conversations and shared anticipation for the day ahead.

The first stop was the unique Carton King where members explored creative cardboard masterpieces, including a charming 50-metre train ride made entirely from carton materials. The visit sparked plenty of photo-taking and laughter.

The journey then continued to the renowned Desaru Fruit Farm, where everyone was treated to an impressive variety of organically grown local fruits. Lunch was equally unforgettable, featuring an abundant feast of Malaysian favourites including curry stingray, giant fried prawns, tom yum squid, fried chicken cutlets, and more.

The group later checked into the luxurious Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast, where members enjoyed time to rest, recharge, and explore the beautiful surroundings. Dinner that evening was another highlight, featuring delicacies such as birdโ€™s nest and lobster, while Janssen generously introduced members to a much-loved local favourite โ€” authentic Char Kway Teow.

By then, everyone had grown closer through shared experiences, heartfelt conversations, and lots of laughter. The evening ended with music, tรชte-ร -tรชte chats, and memorable bonding moments that truly strengthened friendships within the club.

The following morning began with another sumptuous breakfast before members spent time enjoying the hotel facilities: swimming, buggy rides, sightseeing, and simply relaxing together.

Before heading home, the group made one final stop at Mid Valley Southkey for shopping and leisure. The familiar Singaporean enthusiasm for JB bargains certainly came alive, with plenty of โ€œcheap, cheap, cheap!โ€ moments echoing throughout the mall.

The getaway concluded with a wonderful dinner at Restoran Peking, where members enjoyed a lavish spread that included suckling pig, sambal sotong, Hainanese chicken, clams, collagen mushroom dishes, and fresh vegetables. It was the perfect ending to a short but meaningful retreat.

To members who missed this getaway: we hope you will join us for future outings and club events! More exciting trips are already being discussed.

Come along, connect with fellow members, and create wonderful memories together. We look forward to seeing even more participation in our upcoming events and travels! - Napoleon Koh

โœจ SRC Toastmasters Open House โ€“ A Night of Inspiration and Growth โœจ

On 22 April, the SRC Toastmasters Section hosted an engaging Open House Chapter Meeting at Lounge 1883, warmly welcoming SRC members to attend for free and experience what Toastmasters is all about.

The evening saw a wonderful turnout, including members of the nominated Management Committee (MC), who joined us during the break. We were especially delighted that one of the nominated MC members decided to sign up as a member of our section; a warm welcome to Shang!

๐ŸŽค Highlights of the Evening

The session featured outstanding speeches from some of our best speakers:

Dayal Khemlani delivered his champion speech โ€œTo India with Loveโ€
Jenny Goh and Napoleon Koh captivated the audience with equally inspiring presentations

During the opening address, our Section President, Neo Ley Lee, encouraged all members to contribute to the clubโ€™s growth by inviting just one SRC member to future meetings, a simple but powerful call to action.

๐ŸŒŸ Learning in Action

A standout moment came from Raphael Lee, who impressed the audience with his evaluation of Dayalโ€™s speech. His performance demonstrated that effective evaluation is not about who you are assessing, whether a seasoned Toastmaster or a newcomer, but about challenging yourself to deliver structured, meaningful feedback that helps the speaker grow.

๐Ÿ† Congratulations to our Ribbon Winners

And the accolades didnโ€™t stop there.

On 19 March 2026, Eugene once again delivered a spectacular performance at the Division L Mandarin Prepared Speech and Table Topics Contests. Competing against six contestants in each category, many of whom were native Mandarin speakers, including participants from mainland China. Eugene stood out with exceptional poise and skill.

His prepared speech was clear, confident, and engaging, while his Table Topics responses were composed, well-structured, and impactful. Against strong competition, Eugene rose to the top and was crowned ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†

โœจ Celebrating Our Speakers โ€“ 25 March Chapter Meetingโœจ

What an inspiring evening at SRC Toastmasters as we gathered under the theme โ€œEmpowering Voices: Celebrating Women Speakers and Leaders.โ€

From the very start, Dayal Khemlani set the tone: not just as Toastmaster-of-the-Evening, but as the best dressed Toastmaster who truly showed what it means to give respect to the stage.

Our eloquent Language Evaluator, Anne Marie, introduced us to the Word of the Day: โ€œfacetious.โ€

Now, truth be toldโ€ฆ some of us have gone through life without ever using that word ๐Ÿ˜„ but not that night! Many speakers gamely rose to the challenge, weaving it into their speeches (some more than once!).

๐ŸŽค Speech Highlights:

Jude Simpson moved us with a heartfelt tribute, not to the usual family figures, but to the often-unsung women who shaped his life: helpers, cleaners, teachers, and friendsโ€™ mothers. A powerful reminder of quiet influence.

Lili Heng brought us into her sanctuary, the kitchen, sharing how it becomes her meditative space while cooking up a storm for her large familyโ€ฆ including an oyster omelette that left us all salivating! ๐Ÿคค

Christopher Emmanuel gave us a wake-up call (ironically!) on the power of napsโ€ฆ while warning us that โ€œjust five minutesโ€ can be a dangerous promise. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Jenny Goh entertained us with her observations of everyday โ€œweirdnessโ€ during her commute, cleverly tying it to the expressive dance group Avantgardu.

๐Ÿ’ก Table Topics Session:
Stepping up in her upgraded role as Table Topics Master, Nancy Wee guided speakers through thoughtful prompts centered on womenโ€™s voices, offering insightful tips along the way. And then our Toastmaster of the Evening cleverly summarised all the table topic speeches with key words from the speeches!

๐ŸŽ‰ And of course, a double celebration!
Happy Birthday to Madeline, who not only celebrated her special day with us but also clinched Best Table Topics Speaker of the night! ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŽ‚

An evening full of courage, humour, reflection, and growth, this is what Toastmasters is all about.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Stay tuned as we continue celebrating "Toastmasters Awareness Month" with more stories, speakers, and inspiration!

A proud moment for SRC Toastmasters! ๐ŸŽ‰

Please join us in congratulating Eugene Low, our Vice-President Education 2025-26, on achieving 2nd Runner-Up at the Area M1 Toastmasters International Speech Contest held on 14 March 2026! ๐Ÿ‘

Eugene first emerged as Champion at our club contest, earning the honor of representing SRC Toastmasters on the Area M1 stage and he certainly did us proud with his heartfelt speech "Surely, that can wait!" His journey is a testament to dedication, courage, and the power of consistent practice.

We were also heartened to have several of our Toastmasters present at the contest, cheering him on and showing the true spirit of camaraderie and support that defines our club. ๐Ÿ’™

In Eugeneโ€™s own words:
โ€œI feel honored to be able to represent SRC at the recent Area M1 International Speech Contest where I won 2nd Runner-Up position.

As a Smedley Distinguished Club (the highest accolade any Toastmasters club could be bestowed), it is important that SRC Toastmasters Club continue to show our presence at Area and Divisional level contests to feature our many great speakers within our section.

I hope to continue to bring glory to our SRC Toastmasters Club.โ€

Once again, congratulations Eugene! Your achievement inspires us all, and we look forward to seeing even greater milestones ahead. ๐ŸŒŸ
