Earlier this afternoon, we continued to celebrate the rich legacies of Singapore’s Malay music scene through remembering the remarkable life of Allahyarham Idris Md Yusof 🎶✨
A figure whose musical journey spanned decades, he played an important role in OMS’ development from its early years, helping to bring the Orkestra to life and keep Malay music thriving in Singapore. OMS’ distinctive identity as an ensemble that brings together Western and traditional Malay instruments continues to this day.
Today, we’re celebrating his story through the launch of ‘Music, Idris & Me’, the English translation by his daughter Cik Emilia Idris (Em Idris) of ‘Aku, Idris & Muzik’, written by his wife, Puan Zaharah Jantan.
The biography offers a personal window into a life shaped by music, resilience, curiosity and service - honouring the people who helped shape Singapore’s Malay music heritage.
‘Music, Idris & Me’ will be available soon at Wardah Books 📚
The original Malay edition, ‘Aku, Idris & Muzik’, will be available at Pesta Buku Melayu Singapura, happening at Wisma Geylang Serai this weekend 📍
