It is an event that we Singaporeans are proud of. The first formal Chingay Parade in Singapore was mooted by the then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who was also the chairman of the People’s Association. Chingay, with all its noise and gaiety, would compensate for the ban on firecrackers, a customary New Year practice to drive away evil spirits. Since then, Chingay Parade has evolved from a series o
f street processions into a multi-cultural world-class event today. The Illustrated Evolution of Chingay aims to engage the public more on the history and transformation of Chingay Parade through the form of 10 massive wall mural illustrations and a costume design exhibition done by a team of local artists and students from the LianHe ZaoBao Student Correspondents’ Club (Singapore Press Holdings). Each wall mural illustration will feature the different years in Chingay Parade’s history, showcasing and documenting its rich heritage and the Singapore spirit. Through the eyes of the participating local artists and students, this project would definitely offer Singaporeans, both the young and the old, new and unique perspectives to this annual world-class street extravaganza.
新加坡妆艺大游行不仅是最全城瞩目的节日街头游行盛典，也是国人引以为傲的年度欢庆活动。举 办妆艺游行欢庆农历新年的构想最初是出自当年担任人民协会主席的李光耀总理，希望由欢腾热闹 的妆艺游行取代人们在农历新年期间燃放爆竹的传统习俗。从起初春节期间一个大型的群众活动到 现在的多元文化世界顶级盛事，妆艺大游行在过去的四十三年发生了极大的演变。
《绘演妆艺》将为大家呈现十幅插图壁画，希望通过一系列的插图引起公众对妆艺大游行演变 史的关注，让他们更加了解其中的历史与意义。由一群本地画家与联合早报学生通讯员俱乐部的学 生们联合制作，每一幅插图壁画将会是妆艺大游行历史中各别年份的象征，为公众呈现和记载本土 的文化遗产以及体现出我国独有的新加坡精神。通过参与画家与学生们的视野，这计划必定会为国 人带来全新和独特的视角去看待这一年一度世界级的街头盛会。

Ho Han Chong
Ho Han Chong is currently the executive artist of Lian He Zao Bao's "ZBComma", "Thumbs Up" and "Thumbs Up Junior" weekly student newspapers. He has also been a cartoon columnist for the past 17 years. His works have been highly commended and have received multiple Singapore Press Holdings annual awards.
何汉聪
何汉聪目前是联合早报《逗号》、《大拇指》、和《小拇指》的执行级美术员。他也是一名漫画专栏作家，已 有长达 17 年的经验。他的插画与漫画作品曾多次荣获联合早报奖项。
Lim Boo Teck Eddie
Eddie is a practitioner of graphic design of both traditional and new media. Working on illustrations have been his greatest passion, which he still does in-betweens his teaching days. Currently an associate Lecturer in Republic Polytechnic, it helps him to fulfill his aspirations to teach and inspire the next generation of designers.
林武德
林武德是一名专业平面设计从业者，精通传统媒体和新媒体。目前在新加坡共和理工学院与担任助 理讲师的他，希望履行自己的愿望，教导和激励下一代的年轻设计师。他在业余时间也会制作绘图 和从事特约设计工作。
Edwin Ng Huk Keng
Veteran illustrator Edwin Ng has been designing the Chingay Parade costumes since year 2006. He collaborated with the Ministry of Education (Singapore) to illustrate for various student educational textbooks. Among these, his works in "Good Citizen" textbooks have earned himself multiple professional awards. Edwin Ng is currently a part-time lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic and a freelance illustrator cm designer for local and overseas publications.
黄学敬
深插画家黄学敬 (Edwin Ng) 从 2006 年开始就积极参与妆艺大游行服装的设计工作。曾为教育部属下的学 生课本绘图，他在《好公民》课本里的绘图还更是多次荣获专业奖项。黄学敬目前在新加坡南洋理工学院担任 兼职讲师，也为本地与海外刊物从事绘图和设计工作。
Chia Kun Liang
Chia Kun Liang is a student at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, currently pursuing his diploma in Child Psychology and Early Education. He is also a student correspondent of the Singapore Press Holdings (Lian He Zao Bao) Student Correspondents' Club since year 2010.
