Cryptocurrencies remain one of the most polarising topics in finance. In Singapore, a leading hub for innovation and regulation, the debate is particularly sharp: can digital assets mature into a credible part of the financial system, or will risks around volatility, speculation, and sustainability outweigh their potential?

Advocates point to Singapore’s proactive regulatory approach, growing institutional interest, and emerging use cases such as tokenised funds, on-chain treasuries, and cross-border payments. At the same time, sceptics highlight persistent challenges, from regulatory uncertainty and market volatility to questions about transparency and environmental impact.
This panel will bring together perspectives from banks, asset managers, and technology leaders to examine crypto’s evolving role in Singapore and the wider region.

🔑 Key discussion themes:
- Regulatory Outlook in Singapore and Beyond: how frameworks are shaping adoption and credibility.
- Financial Stability vs. Market Volatility: the risks and opportunities for investors and businesses.
- Innovation and Systemic Risk: whether digital assets are transformative or fragile.
- Institutional Adoption and Tokenisation: How asset managers and treasuries are exploring blockchain-based funds and liquidity instruments.

Participants include:
- Ms Danielle Szetho, Head of Digital Asset Portfolio & Governance, Standard Chartered
- Mr Eric Barbier, Chief Executive Officer, Triple-A
- Mr Kenneth Gay, Chief FinTech Officer, Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)
-Mr Carl Otto van der Elst, Managing Director, Head of EMEA Corporate Coverage - APAC, Deutsche Bank AG, Singapore Branch

On 16 September, EuroCham organised Leadership in Action: Embedding Sustainability Across the Built Environment, hosted by Schneider Electric, as part of EuroCham’s Building & Construction Programme.

The event opened with welcome remarks by Ms Nele Cornelis, Executive Director, EuroCham Singapore, followed by a keynote speech by Mr Yoon Young Kim (Schneider Electric), highlighting key insights from the joint Schneider Electric Singapore–Singapore Green Building Council report: Awareness to Action: Insights for a Green Built Environment. This was followed by a keynote presentation by Ms Esther An (City Developments Limited), who shared her vision and experience in advancing low-carbon, high-performance developments across the real estate value chain.

A panel discussion moderated by Ar. Benjamin Henry Towell (OCBC) brought together Ms Esther An (CDL), Mr Yoon Young Kim (Schneider Electric) and Mr Stephan Degenhart (Drees & Sommer) to explore how governance, digitalisation and finance translate net-zero commitments into measurable outcomes.

The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A, where participants actively engaged the panel, sparking an insightful exchange of ideas.

EuroCham extends its appreciation to Schneider Electric for hosting, to the distinguished panelists and moderator for their valuable contributions, and to the audience for joining and enriching the discussion.

👉 Stay tuned for the next pillars in the Building & Construction Programme, where we continue exploring the future of sustainable and innovative built environments.

Today, on 12 September, EuroCham in collaboration with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce Singapore, had the pleasure of hosting an engaging discussion on how the European Union is navigating a rapidly shifting global landscape and the promising opportunities ahead despite both internal and external challenges. Thank you to ie University and the team led by Ms Ashikah Ameerudeen, for hosting us.

Since its foundation, the EU has pursued integration not only as an economic bloc but also as a political union built on economic freedom, social progress, and collective strength. While obstacles remain, the conversation highlighted that the EU’s ambition to consolidate its role on the world stage is more relevant than ever.

A key takeaway: Europe cannot thrive in isolation. Competitiveness in today’s world depends on resilient and interconnected global supply chains, built on collaboration rather than fragmentation.

A warm thank you to our distinguished speakers, Prof Gregorio Serrano (ie University), Prof Alfred Schipke (EAI) and Ms Zsofia Balatoni (Rothman & Roman) for their valuable insights. Our gratitude goes to Mr James Marshall and to everyone who joined us.

Last Thursday, we were proud to celebrate the launch of The Great Disruption: How Geopolitics is Changing Companies, Managers, and Work by Professor Srividya Jandhyala (ESSEC). The book is a timely reflection on how geopolitics is reshaping corporate strategy, leadership, and the way we work.

The book sheds light on critical themes such as friend-shoring, the role of corporate nationality in assessing risks, and the importance of avoiding over-reaction so that political frontiers do not weaken the strong bonds between companies and people.

As part of its new 2024–2028 strategic plan, ESSEC Business School launched the Institute for Geopolitics & Business, an interdisciplinary hub dedicated to exploring the intersections between geopolitics and the economic world.

A warm thank you to ESSEC Business School, Professor Srividya Jandhyala, Professor Cedomir Nestorovic, and Professor Andrew Delios for advancing this vital dialogue and to Mr Leo Tan and Yvonne Tan for the invitation.
