Singapore National Stroke Association - SNSA

Singapore National Stroke Association - SNSA At the heart of our work are befriending, counselling, and peer support programmes, many of which are led by stroke survivors themselves.

Since 1996, The Singapore National Stroke Association (SNSA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering every first step, from stroke recovery to reintegration, and in building communities that age well together. The Singapore National Stroke Association (SNSA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering every first step, from stroke recovery to reintegration, and in building co

mmunities that age well together. Our mission is to support stroke survivors and caregivers through timely interventions, trusted information, and community-based resources that enable meaningful recovery and independent living. These lived-experience initiatives form a vital part of SNSA’s approach to person-centred, community rehabilitation. We collaborate closely with healthcare institutions, social service agencies, and volunteers to strengthen care ecosystems, promote evidence-informed practice, and raise awareness on stroke prevention and brain health. Through our stroke resource centre, we provide access to practical tools, services, and a safe space for survivors and caregivers to seek support, share stories, and build social connections. As Singapore’s dedicated stroke support charity, SNSA is committed to advancing equity in stroke recovery, nurturing caregiver resilience, and fostering inclusive, age-friendly communities where everyone can thrive after stroke.

We were deeply honoured to be invited to take part in the RSN Sailor Health Day. A heartfelt thank you to long serving Executive Committee (EXCO) Dr Deidre De Silva for delivering the message on stroke awareness to our civil servants. Her sharing served as a powerful reminder of why early understanding and prevention matter so deeply.

It was a day to better understand our metabolic health and the steps we can take to maintain it. One key insight was the use of the healthy plate model for portioning meals. This method suggests that our plate should consist of ½ fruits and vegetables, ¼ carbohydrates, and ¼ protein. This simple visual guide helps us maintain balanced meals and supports healthier eating habits in a practical, easy-to-follow way.

We are truly grateful to the Republic of Singapore Navy for the warm invitation and generous hospitality, which gave us the opportunity to share not only about stroke but also the often unseen challenge of social isolation that many stroke survivors face in their recovery journey.

Most of all, we thank everyone who took the time to stop by our booth, listen, ask questions and share in the commitment to understanding stroke.

In March 2024, Carl Davies suffered a massive stroke that nearly took his life.

Today, Carl is officially registered in the UAE as a Person of Determination and continues to navigate the challenges of recovery while living with left-sided hemiplegia. His journey has been marked by determination, resilience and an unwavering commitment to move forward despite significant physical and mental challenges.

Even after all he has been through, Carl focuses on what he can still give and the people he can help.

To raise awareness and funds for younger stroke survivors, Carl has pledged to walk 5KM every day for an entire year. For someone like Carl, every step is hard-earned, making this commitment an extraordinary demonstration of perseverance and courage.

We are honoured to share Carl's story and support his mission to inspire others affected by stroke and raise awareness of the challenges survivors face every day.

We had the privilege of spending time with residents at People's Association Radin Mas during a stroke prevention and awareness session. It was truly heartening to see so many come together in the morning, making time to learn about what a stroke can mean for someone’s life and how each of us can play a part in supporting stroke survivors within our community.

Moments like these are a reminder that awareness is not just about information —it is about empathy, understanding and the willingness to stand beside one another when life changes unexpectedly.

A sincere thank you to our befrienders for your unwavering dedication and quiet determination in raising awareness and encouraging those around you.

💜 Meet our befrienders like Eddie, who walk alongside many in their journey at our Stepping Out For Stroke (SOFS) 2026.

Our stroke survivors recently headed to Marina One for our "Walk in the Park x Phonetography" programme, where they spent the morning exploring nature through both their eyes and their camera lenses.

From lush greenery to hidden details and scenic corners, participants took their time capturing the beauty around them while a refreshing walk together. Along the way, there were plenty of smiles, shared photography tips, and moments worth remembering.

Proof that a good walk, great company and a camera phone are all you need for a wonderful day out. 💚

Recently, SNSA had the privilege of having Irene and Daniel, to SPD Toa Payoh and Canberra to share their stroke journeys and recovery experiences with the community. Through their heartfelt stories, participants gained deeper insight into the realities of stroke, the importance of early intervention through health screening and early symptoms to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Thank you to our survivors for courageously sharing their experiences and to SPD for having us. Together, we continue to raise awareness and empower our community towards stroke prevention and recovery support.
