As the apex body of the Chinese business community in Singapore, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) plays a key and pro-active role in representing the interests of the local business community. Established in 1906, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) is an internationally renowned business organisation and the apex body of the Chinese business co

mmunity in Singapore. It is the founder of the biennial World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention and the World Chinese Business Network (www.wcbn.com.sg), a global online business information portal. In its continued drive for service excellence, the SCCCI has become the first business chamber in the region to be awarded ISO 9001 certification since 1995. In 2018, the Chamber successfully upgraded its ISO certification to ISO 9001:2015. The SCCCI has a membership network comprising some 5,000 corporate members and has more than 160 trade association members, representing over 40,000 companies including large financial and business organisations, multinational corporations, government-linked companies, and small and medium enterprises from a wide spectrum of trades and industries. These members together provide vast resources and opportunities which enable the SCCCI to develop an influential global Chinese business network for business, education, culture and community development. In return, they share a strong sense of pride and identity together and benefit immensely from the SCCCI’s membership services, facilities and activities.

On 14 August, SCCCI and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) presented “Harmony” (聚商惠民,乐融四海), a special cultural evening commemorating SCCCI’s 120th anniversary and SCO’s 30th anniversary.

We were honoured to welcome Ms Sim Ann 沈颖, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for Home Affairs, as our Guest of Honour, together with 600 guests, including 31 Ambassadors and High Commissioners and representatives from 37 embassies and high commissions, as well as business leaders, partners and stakeholders.

Dedicated to Singapore’s diplomatic community, the evening expressed our appreciation for their important role in strengthening bilateral business and economic cooperation, international partnerships and people-to-people connections.

As SCCCI marks 120 years, we remain committed to building bridges through business, friendship and a shared belief in an open and connected Singapore.

A meaningful evening of conversations and connections at the SCCCI Career Women's Group 新加坡中华总商会事业女性组 (CWG) fireside chat with Ms Claire Chiang, CWG Advisor and Co-founder of Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts.

As one of the founding figures of CWG, Claire shared her experiences and perspectives with mentors and mentees from both seasons of the CWG Mentorship Programme, in an open exchange on learning, growth and mentorship.

Members of the 新加坡中华总商会华语讲演会 SCCCI Mandarin Toastmasters Club also joined the session — especially meaningful given Claire’s role in guiding the establishment of the Club.

The evening brought together both communities to reconnect, exchange experiences and learn from one another.

They also discussed how agentic AI is strengthening cyber-threat response, and why leaders must prepare their strategies and workforce for AI while managing the associated risks.

Swipe through perspectives from Ms Darius Keng, Managing Director of UIC Asian Computer Services Pte Ltd; Ms Joey Goh, General Manager, APAC at ShareCRM; Mr Heng Kwee Tong, Chief Technology Officer of SPTel Pte Ltd; and Dr Zhao Jingyuan, Head of Group Data Office at OCBC.

At SMEICC 2026, the session “Built on Partnerships, Powered by People” explored how leadership, culture and trust can help organisations navigate transformation and achieve sustainable growth.

A key message from the discussion was that while AI can automate tasks and improve productivity, it cannot replace vision, purpose or leadership.

“AI replaces tasks; it does not replace leadership.”

The speakers also highlighted the importance of building a strong organisational culture that connects people to a shared purpose. Psychological safety begins with trust—and trust is strengthened when leaders listen actively, ask meaningful questions and create space for employees to voice different perspectives.

Active Listening → Connection → Psychological Safety → Trust → Collaboration

Successful transformation therefore requires both technology and people: the right tools, together with the skills, mindset and organisational support needed to use them well. External partnerships, networks and resource sharing can further help businesses accelerate innovation and create greater value.

The session featured Mr Saurav Atri, DFI Retail Group; Ms Jeslin Lim, Cycle & Carriage; and Ms Emily Tan, Empower Partners.

It was chaired by Dr Anne Phey, The School of Leadership.

At the final plenary of SMEICC 2026, “Play to Win in a High-Cost, Uneven-Growth World”, business leaders shared how they are making deliberate choices, transforming with purpose and staying focused on long-term value.

Ms Beatrice Liu, Co-founder & CEO of Oriental Remedies Group, spoke about staying focused on target customers, strengthening business capabilities through available support, and adopting technology as part of a long-term strategy rather than through piecemeal solutions.

Mr Ernie Koh, Executive Director of Koda Ltd, encouraged businesses to keep experimenting and improving:

“Failure must be part of the DNA of your business.”

He also highlighted the value of trusted partnerships, industry networks and viewing sustainability as a source of long-term business value.

Mr Eugene Lee, Chief Operating Officer of GOGOX, emphasised creating lasting value for customers instead of pursuing market share alone. On AI, he shared:

“Don’t see AI as a trap, see AI as a productive tool.”

The session was moderated by Mr Suan Teck Kin, Executive Director & Head of Research, Global Economics & Markets Research, UOB.

Key takeaways included the move from AI experimentation to real-world enterprise applications, the growing role of agentic AI, and the importance of data governance, regulatory compliance and security.
