Best Evaluator goes to... our own Joseph Lim! ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŽ‰

Joseph stepped out to Nee Soon East Toastmasters Club and came back with the Best Evaluator ribbon. Proof that the Changkat standard travels well. We're proud of him for representing our club with such quality outside our own walls. ๐Ÿ‘

Here's what stood out in his evaluation: Most evaluators will tell a speaker to "vary your tone" or "pause more."

Joseph went one step further, showing speakers how to unlock that natural variation. His insight? It's often the tense.

When speeches are told in past tense, they read like a report "I went, I saw, I felt." When told in present tense, they become a story happening live, "I walk in, I see it, I feel it." That shift alone can turn a passive recount into an active, gripping story. No extra tonal tricks needed.

A small tweak, a big lesson and a great reminder of the caliber we bring wherever we go.

If you look at the dashboard in the image above, you will see a fantastic milestone: ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ ๐ง๐ž๐ฐ ๐ฆ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ recruited in just the month of July. But as the President of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters, I don't just see a statistic. I see 10 individuals who have taken a courageous step to find their voice, build their confidence, and trust our community with their personal growth.

None of this magic happens by accident.

Today, my heart is brimming with immense gratitude and pride for our Vice President of Membership (VPM) team, brilliantly led by Uthpala Pathirana and Arisa Prekprakhon. ๐Ÿ’– Welcoming guests and making them feel like they genuinely belong takes a very special kind of warmth, empathy, and relentless dedication. Your team, have poured your hearts into ensuring that every single person who walks through our doors feels seen, valued, and right at home.

Thereโ€™s something deeply special about waking up early on a weekendโ€”not for ourselves, but for our community.

Today, my heart is incredibly full. I had the immense privilege of watching our Tampines Changkat Toastmasters members volunteer their time and energy at the Tampines Changkat Community Club for our National Day celebrations.

Seeing this team in action was genuinely heartwarming. They didnโ€™t just show up; they poured their hearts into it. From setting up the booths and enthusiastically helping the residents, to sharing the infectious spirit of our nation's birthdayโ€”they did it all with the biggest smiles. And amidst all the festive cheer, they even took the time to share what our club is all about with the community.

I am constantly inspired by the brilliant individuals in our Family of Champions. You are a testament to what it means to serve with passion and purpose.

As we celebrate Singaporeโ€™s birthday this weekend, seeing this spirit of unity and service reminds me of who we are at our core. Being a Singaporean, and being a member of Tampines Changkat Toastmasters, are two things I believe deeply in, am immensely proud of, and draw endless inspiration from. ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌโœจ

Deputy Area Director. Casually walked away with the Best Table Topics ribbon too. ๐Ÿ˜„

TM Uthpala Pathirana joined the UPS APAC Chapter meeting as Deputy Area Director, and still found time to steal the show.

Her Table Topics question: "How should you deal with criticism?"

Her answer: "With mercy." ๐Ÿ˜„ A line that got the laugh, followed by a wise thought. She shared how she's learned to pause, take a breath, and ask, "What am I trying to achieve here?" and "What are we trying to achieve here?", before responding. Instead of reacting with emotion in the heat of the moment.

Calm over criticism. Mercy over reaction. No wonder she took the ribbon home.

From representing Singapore on the world stage to shaping the next generation of leaders. ๐ŸŒ

We're proud to share that Distinguished Toastmaster Kin Ng (Fa Kinster Powers) recently conducted a training session for 50+ students at American University Phnom Penh, bringing his signature blend of executive presence and leadership coaching to a room full of eager young minds.

DTM Kin Ng needs little introduction. Having represented Singapore at the World Championship of Public Speaking and clinched multiple district titles along the way, he's built a reputation as one of the most respected voices in our region's speaking circuit. Yet what makes him truly stand out is his own humility about that journey, he credits much of his success not just to stage time, but to the coaching and mentoring that shaped him along the way.

It's that same spirit of paying it forward that he brought to Phnom Penh equipping the next generation of student leaders with the tools to speak with clarity, presence, and confidence.

At Tampines Changkat Toastmasters, we couldn't be prouder to call him one of our own. Watching him carry our club's values of growth, mentorship, and excellence far beyond our meeting room is exactly the kind of impact we hope every member aspires to make.
