How does a homebody become the life of the party?
64-year-old Mdm Soh once described herself as a reserved and fearful person. That changed when she began her volunteering journey 15 years ago, when we invited her to cook for our seniors’ programme, which inspired her to start giving back.
When entrusted with responsibilities, Mdm Soh feels happy and appreciated. She enjoys planning games, preparing meals, and assisting seniors with exercise. She motivates seniors who are shy or hesitant to participate. Inspired by her dedication, her friends and neighbours flocked to join Kaki Kampong Seniors Wellness (KKSW) and take up volunteering too. Even her husband started contributing by driving seniors with mobility issues to our programmes.
Mdm Soh is deeply encouraged by the love and support she receives from the seniors, many of whom have become her friends. Now a role model among volunteers, she has truly come out of her shell, made so many feel welcome and turned strangers into friends. Stories like hers remind us of the importance of creating a sense of purpose and belonging for seniors.
Through KKSW, seniors are empowered to stay active, do good in the community, and reach out to isolated and vulnerable seniors. You can help us sustain the KKSW community by giving to our Lakeside Charity Golf and Dinner 2026.
