Turning Student Initiative into Meaningful Action.

We recently organized a Bake Sale Fundraiser as part of our wider student-led sustainability work.
The fundraiser was not only about raising support. It was also about planning, teamwork, communication, and taking responsibility for a cause we care about.
A sincere thank you to the student volunteers who contributed to this initiative: Sherrie, Ayana, Nehal, Iara, Rayan, Devina, and Saanvi
This initiative connects strongly with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
For me, this was a reminder that sustainability becomes more meaningful when it moves beyond discussion and turns into visible student action.

Coffee Mug. Paper stack. Decision to "create", instead of discard.
Interrupting the "throwaway reflex" , Alexandria team applied circular thinking in practice.
The act wasn't symbolic, it was functional - aligned to RippleSDG17
Our Alexandria team asked a question: What if the used paper didn't end in a bin? Sustainability Commandos - Ashraf, Fareed and Youssef were determined and knew this is how ripple reaches every home! Gathered used papers sorted, processed and transformed them into handmade stationary - notebooks, bookmarks, pen holders, and educational kits. These repurposed materials are now finding their way into the hands of underserved children.
Supporting SDG12, SDG17 - Responsible consumption and production, Collaborative local action.
Awareness, Coordination and ex*****on. This is what it takes to be a part of RippleSDG17!

Which Rat Are You?

Two rats fell into a bowl of cream.

One gave up and drowned.

The other kept struggling, churned the cream into butter, and climbed out.

At RippleSDG17, we believe: challenges don’t create impact on their own. It takes people who act and those who support.

Are you the Sustainability Commando — the doer who drives change?

Or the Sustainability Custodian — the supporter who ensures progress lasts?

Together, we turn obstacles into opportunities and create real impact.

Ay further questions, you can reach me via RippleSDG17 Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram or write to me on [email protected]

We are committed to respond to you within 24 hours.

As a part of RippleSDG17’s commitment to inclusion and equity, this drive centered on raising awareness, amplifying lived experiences, and promoting advocacy for individuals and families within the autism community. Our sustainability Commando Guru Aroul, his involvement helped strengthen this shared mission, reinforcing the importance of advocacy rooted in listening and representation.

The core learning from this RippleSDG17 drive is clear: inclusive spaces do not emerge by chance but they are built through intentional action, shared responsibility, and understanding.

RippleSDG17s first drive in Dallas, United States, led by Sustainability Commando and Custodians who worked seamlessly to foster understanding and create inclusive environments.

The key takeaway from this RippleSDG17 drive is clear: inclusive spaces are intentionally built, and understanding grows when advocacy is collective.

Aligned SDGs: SDG 3 – Good Health & Well-being, SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities, SDG 17 – Partnerships for the goals.

Every packet tells a story!

It begins with something small. A tear at the corner of a snack packet. A tiny strip of plastic, no longer useful, barely noticeable. We pull it off without thinking.

It falls on the floor, slips into a pocket, or disappears into the dustbin.
And then… it disappears from our minds.

I started noticing how often this happens, especially around children. Chips. Nuts. Drink Sachets. Every packet has that “easy-open” corner. Convenient for us, but incredibly difficult for the planet!

These tiny plastic cuts are too small to be recycled easily, too light to be collected efficiently, and too scattered to be managed properly. They often escape sorting systems and end up where they shouldn’t: in soil, drains, rivers, and eventually oceans.

The problem is not awareness alone. It’s design, systems, and habits.

At Ripplesdg17, we believe small actions create big ripples!

Here are solutions that are realistic and easy to start with:

Design change: Encourage brands to reduce or redesign tear-off plastic corners.

Habit change: Teach children to keep packet corners inside the main wrapper before disposal.

Household practice: Collect small plastics separately in a single container instead of letting them scatter.

School awareness: Introduce simple discussions on “invisible waste” in classrooms.

Parental guidance: Mothers and caregivers can model mindful disposal habits that children naturally copy.

Lets solve together!
At RippleSDG17, we believe sustainability doesn’t always start with big innovations.
Sometimes, it starts with noticing the smallest things we throw away.
Because even the smallest cut leaves a mark.

In Tondo, Manila’s most resilient yet overlooked slum, I witnessed hope speak in new words. Alongside Tweety Christian, our Shanghai-based Commando Sustainability team ran a small drive with a big purpose: teaching English literacy to children who had never held a book, and serving them a warm, free lunch. Laughter replaced hunger; curiosity replaced silence.

This moment reflected the heart of Ripple SDG17—partnerships driving SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), two urgent concerns in Manila. Sustainable change begins where compassion meets collaboration.

For RippleSDG17, the Egypt team proudly took action on SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by turning a simple idea into a powerful movement—running together for health, community, and change.

The initiative was built around a weekly marathon-style running event, designed to promote physical activity while raising awareness about healthcare and well-being in Egypt. At its heart, the project aimed to remind people that good health begins with small, consistent habits, and that sport can be a unifying force for positive change.

Organized by our Commandos - Hesham, Fares, and Magdy, the team of commandos was lead by our core team lead Youssef. The team is committed to continue to organize and motivate the community. I want to take an opportunity to thank the custodians who participated in the event. Each run brought together approximately 25 custodians and citizens, with 6 dedicated team members running consistently every week, while the rest were local participants who joined to support the cause.

Over the course of four consecutive weeks, the running team transformed public spaces into symbols of resilience and motivation. The sight of people running together not only encouraged others to engage in sports, but also sparked conversations about preventive healthcare, mental well-being, and the importance of staying active in everyday life.

This initiative was not about competition—it was about commitment. Commitment to health. Commitment to community. Commitment to building a culture where movement and well-being are accessible to everyone.

By the end of the four weeks, the Egypt team successfully wrapped the initiative with measurable impact: increased participation, growing awareness, and a strong message that caring for one’s health is both a personal and collective responsibility.

Through this marathon initiative, the Egypt team demonstrated how simple actions, when done together, can create ripples of change—perfectly embodying the spirit of RippleSDG17.

"Turning Worms into Wisdom - The Art of Composting"

It's not every day you shake hands with a worm and call it a lesson in sustainability.

Hands slightly hesitant, but minds fully open, the Sustainability Team (with Nicole, Roshi, Taps, Sharan) at OWIS under the guidance of Ms. Chia, Ms. Sanhita and organized by EcoCupid (Mr. Bryan and Mr. Pranav) "Composter and Food Waste Awareness Session".

Our guest speaker demonstrated how composting can reduce school waste, nourish gardens and build eco conscious habits in our community.

The session embodied SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by promoting waste reduction and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals), by united students, sponsors and educators.

With this, I invite you to take a step and make it a movement. I am looking forward to receiving your story. Please reach out to me, I am committed to respond to you within 24 hours.
