Chong De Youth Volunteers

The ultimate joy is the Joy of Giving and we hope to share this Spirit of Giving to the youth of the world.

Chong De Cultural Society, founded in 1991, aims to restore and promote traditional Chinese moral values and cultures in today’s modernized and urbanized society. Since its inception, our members have actively participated in numerous community projects organized by Community Chest. Some of these projects included voluntary work during the Istana Open House and the annual National Day Parade, as w

ell as fund-raising activities to help the needy. Chong De Volunteer is a team of vibrant young people who are passionate about helping the needy. We have been planning and organizing voluntary activities since 2005 to engage the youth in community works. For example, we :
• visited the patients at Ren Ci Hospital (2005-2006)
• visited the old folks at Swami Home (2006)
• worked with CDAC in Project Care serving the old folks (2007)
• spruced up one-room rental flats in Marsiling (2007)
• visited the old folks in Christalite Methodist Home (2007-2008)
• commence long term partnership with Swami (2010)
• commence long term partnership with Hong San (2011)
• Red Cross Blood Donation (2011)

We are currently ramping up our voluntary activities and we are reaching out to youths who believe in making a difference in others’ lives. We want youths who are enthusiastic and passionate in voluntary work, to join us and feel the Joy of Giving.

The more we get together, the happier we’ll be! 🌟

February is the month of friendship. To celebrate the spirit of togetherness, we kicked things off with a fun Cha Cha dance with our volunteers and elderly friends💃🕺

What’s a dance without some music? We kept the energy going with a lively sing-along session with our elderly friends!

The highlight of the day was our BINGO-inspired number game! Each team had to draw random numbers and match as many as possible to win.

The session wrapped up with a prize presentation, but as the saying goes, 友情第一，比赛第二 (Friendship first, competition second) – everyone was a winner! 🏆💖 What do we have installed in our next volunteer session? Stay tuned!

At the end of July, team NUSSAM embarked on an exciting new journey, starting our volunteer service at Orange Valley Nursing Home! 🌟 We’re so thrilled to bring smiles to even more elderly through our simple acts of love and care.

To celebrate National Day, we took a nostalgic trip down memory lane with the aunties and uncles, letting them enjoy old-school snacks from the past. 🍬✨ We also kept their bodies and minds active with fun hand exercises and a lively Q&A session! 🙌🧠

What a fulfilling day it was! We can’t wait for more memorable volunteering moments with the elderly at Orange Valley! 🧡

“You and I, we’re not alone, NOT ALONE!” Last month started with this familiar tune as our volunteers led the elderly through a dance workout! That’s right, it’s 2024 NDP theme song~ 🇸🇬

Next, we moved onto creating the Singapore of our dream! After a series of colouring, cutting and pasting, our elderly each held onto their version of Singapore in the form of a pop-up card🤩 The session ended with the highly anticipated BINGO!! Thank you for spending your morning with us and we’ll see you again in the next session🙌🏼🫶🏼

It is National Day season! 🇸🇬 Team POLITE came to GEHA in July for an early NDP celebrations! Our senior citizens were treated to an extravagant programme of national day songs and trivia of Singapore!

Stretch your legs cos it’s time for a walk down memory lane! This June, our volunteers from the University Team brought the elderly out for a walk to the National Museum of Singapore🚶🚶‍♀️

Following a guided tour, our volunteers and elderly learnt about the history of Singapore at the Singapore History Gallery. Not only did we hear stories from our guides, the elderly also shared their interesting stories with our volunteers! The artefacts we saw and stories we heard and read were all part of their youth. We heard it, they lived it🙌🏼

Next, we ventured through the Story of the Forest!🌳 Everyone was mesmerised by the engaging display and of course, we didn’t forget to take photos to capture this moment! 📸

During our latest volunteer service, Team Uni visited Hong San Home for a friendly yet competitive session where the elderly put the phrase “teamwork will make the dream work” to the test! 🌟💯

This time, we tested their coordination and interactive skills with group competitions such as towel passing and cup stacking, fostering strong bonds and teamwork in the process. 🧺🏆 To wrap it all up, we enjoyed a lively karaoke session that ended the day on a high note! 🎤💫 Can't wait for the next month where we will be bringing the elderly out for a walk! Dumpling Festival! This month, a joint effort byTeam POLITE and NTU’s to commemorate dumplings festival! Some simple quiz and artwork activities kept seniors from GEHA happy and engaged! Some of the volunteers also went for house visits as part of the social effort to ensure no one is left behind in the estate! We had a good time with everyone! Bring come join us in July! Guess what are we gonna do? Hint: It has gotta do with two colours we grew up with!

In April, Team Uni embarked on another volunteering session at Hong San!

We got creative with bear-brick painting, and all the volunteers were amazed by the elderly artistic flair! The elderly transformed those bears into masterpieces through splashing it with colours and their unique designs 🤩🤩

After that, we stretched it out with towel exercises before a fun game of passing the ball to the music 🎶 Everyone was so “on the ball”🫢

Marking another unforgettable volunteering session in the books as we look forward to the next session! ☀️

What a massive turnout! Team POLITE came to GEHA last weekend for our monthly service! The energy level was immediately raised with passing the ball as our ice breakers before heading to the main game of the”Monopoly”! The senior citizens were spontaneous in participating and boy, we were so happy to see so many smiling faces from them and our volunteers! Lastly, we also took the opportunity to celebrate the birthdays of those senior citizens in this quarter! Want to have your weekend spent meaningfully? Come join CDYV in May! During the month of love, we celebrated Valentine's Day with the elderly at Hong San Home 💌. We spent the day crafting beautiful cards, decorated with love-shaped stickers. We were truly amazed by the elderly creativity and talent 💖 Of course, we couldn't miss out on their favourite activity – Bingo! 🎲

To wrap up our volunteering session on a high note, we gathered for a dance workout and sing-along session, serenading each other with romantic tunes that truly captured the essence of love. 🎤💕 It was a day filled with laughter, joy, and we definitely look forward to the next volunteering session!

was back at GEHA last weekend, designing personalised tote bags with the senior citizens! These bags are not only drawn with love personally by the senior citizens and our volunteers, they will be able to use them for grocery shopping as well!! What’s better than shopping and thinking about CDYV!
