SINGAPORE ARCHIFEST 2027 [FESTIVAL DIRECTORS]

A new generation takes the stage.

I am delighted to announce Ar. Cheryl Lim and Ar. Quck Zhong Yi as the Festival Directors of Singapore ArchiFest (SGAF) 2027.

As recent recipients of Urban Redevelopment Authority’s '20 Under 45' programme, Cheryl and Zhong Yi built their experience across different architectural practices before coming together at RSP. They now take on a new responsibility, to give voice to the aspirations, questions and perspectives of their generation of Singapore architects.

Their appointment marks a kind of coming of age, in their individual careers as well as for a generation ready to take greater ownership of the conversations shaping our profession and our city.

As SGAF enters its third decade, we look forward to what they will bring: new voices, new questions, and perhaps new ways of imagining what Singapore architecture can be.

Team SIA took to the pitch against the Singapore Medical Association (SMA) on 7 September and The Law Society of Singapore (LawSoc) on 21 September for the Inter-Professional Games (IPG) Football tournament!

Well done to everyone who took part and gave it their all. Great effort, a good workout and, most importantly, plenty of camaraderie along the way!

The Singapore Institute of Architects is proud to host this year’s IPG, bringing professionals together through sport and fellowship.

The SIA team joined fellow professionals from The Law Society of Singapore (LawSoc), Singapore Medical Association (SMA) and Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) for today’s Badminton Inter-Professional Games (IPG)!

It was a great opportunity to enjoy some friendly competition, connect across professions and strengthen camaraderie.

As host of this year’s IPG, the Singapore Institute of Architects looks forward to bringing professionals together through sport and fellowship.

World Mental Health Day | 10 October

A sustainable career is about more than professional growth. It is also about having the time, support and space to sustain ourselves along the way.

The Young Architects Survey 2026 by found that work-life balance is one of the top factors influencing whether architects stay in or leave a firm. The findings remind us that workplace culture and working conditions matter in shaping a sustainable profession.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s continue working towards an architectural profession where wellbeing, growth and professional ambition can go hand in hand.

SIA RTO (Architectural) Certificate Ceremony | 18 September 2026

The Singapore Institute of Architects was pleased to introduce the RTO (Architectural) Registry and celebrate the certification of its inaugural batch of RTOs (Architectural), with Guest of Honour, President of the Board of Architects Ar. Chan Kok Way.

Established in response to an industry need, the Registry provides a professional reference point for trained and assessed talent in the resident site supervision of architectural works, supporting the safety, quality and functionality of our buildings.

Our certified RTOs (Architectural) have undergone structured interview assessments focused on practical competency and professional judgement, and will be supported through periodic renewal and continuing professional development.

SIA invites Government procurement entities, developers and industry partners to consider certified RTOs (Architectural) when specifying and tendering for project supervision teams. They can support Architects and project teams in achieving better coordination and built quality outcomes.

SIA is also developing two pathways to grow this talent pool: a Work-Study Programme with Ngee Ann Polytechnic for fresh graduates, and a Continuing Education and Training course with BCA Academy for technical officers and related professionals seeking to strengthen their capabilities in architectural site supervision.

SIA On-Site at Mama Shelter Singapore

Mama Shelter Singapore translates the brand's playful, people-first philosophy into a context-sensitive architectural response on a compact, trapezoidal Killiney Road site. The design employs a vertically staggered massing strategy with forward-stepping floor plates to optimise spatial efficiency, draw daylight deep into guestrooms, and acoustically buffer street noise.

A conwood exoskeleton on a steel frame forms a porous lattice that mediates glare and establishes a tactile street edge. Above, an open-to-sky roof deck acts as an architectural parasol, shading the hotel rooms while housing a pool, restaurant, and social spaces. At street level, a sheltered walkway maintains pedestrian continuity, leading into an open, immersive environment comprising the lobby, restaurant, and bar, animated by neon signage, murals, and eclectic furnishings reflecting Singapore's multicultural identity.

Through passive design, an expressive timber structure, and vibrant programming, the project harmoniously balances brand identity, environmental performance, and urban integration.
