Han Cultural Society- Singapore

Han Cultural Society- Singapore Han Cultural Society (Singapore) is dedicated to the promotion of Han Chinese culture (漢服/ 文史/ 傳統文化)

Hanfu is the traditional Chinese clothings worn by the Han-Chinese for almost 3000 years in China. It had almost disappeared from the daily life of the Han-Chinese for almost 300 years during Qing dynasty, because the Manchus officially banned the dressing of Hanfu, fearing that the Hanfu would remind the Han-Chinese their original Chinese identity and would rise up to rebel against their rule. Mu

ch of the 20th century had seen Chinese clothings being replaced by Qipao and Changshan, a variant of the Manchu clothings. It was only in the beginning of 21st century before the Han-Chinese saw the need to revive their Han-Chinese identity and their Culture. Started off from mainland China, the Hanfu revival movement spreaded overseas to overseas Chinese communities including Singapore. The movement aims to make Hanfu the core identity of traditional Chinese clothing and fashion for the Chinese and allow the Chinese to wear it during the traditional Chinese festivals.
