This August, as we celebrate National Day, help us refurbish our premises to create a dedicated Recovery Room - a safe, quiet, and dignified space where individuals with epilepsy can rest and regain their strength after experiencing a seizure at our centre.

Why We Need a Recovery Room:
For individuals living with epilepsy, experiencing a seizure is often physically exhausting and disorienting. When a seizure occurs during an activity or program at our centre, our members urgently need a quiet, private, and safe environment to rest and recover.
Right now, we lack a dedicated space designed specifically for this purpose.

How Your Donation Helps:
With your support, we aim to refurbish an existing room at our centre to create this dedicated space. The funds raised will go directly toward transforming the space into a soothing, functional sanctuary.

This includes:
Comfortable sofa bed and recliner
Soft, calming lighting and privacy screens
Safety padding and essential comfort supplies
General refurbishing to ensure the room is accessible and welcoming

Celebrate National Day with the Spirit of Giving:
August is National Day Month—a time when we celebrate Singapore’s progress and reflect on our shared values of compassion, unity, and leaving no one behind. What better way to celebrate our nation's birthday than by stepping up to support a community in need in our midst? By contributing to this campaign, you are doing more than just renovating a room; you are giving our members the gift of safety, comfort, and dignity when they need it most.

Disclosure of epilepsy can be a difficult issue for many people to face. For some their is a real fear of discrimination. While a person is not obliged to disclose the condition unless they are directly asked (this can only be done as part of a medical examination), it is important that people with epilepsy ensure that they do not place themselves or work colleagues at risk. When disclosing, it is important to present the facts in a clear concise manner and be well prepared to deal with any questions that may be asked.

Many people with epilepsy ask how they should deal with the issue of disclosing their epilepsy in a work situation. This talk gives some ideas on how we can navigate around such circumstances.

Today is International Dravet Syndrome Awareness Day. While epilepsy is not rare, there are rare subsets of the condition, and Dravet Syndrome is one such type of rare epilepsy.

Dravet Syndrome is a severe type of epilepsy characterized by often prolonged seizures that usually begin in the first year of life. It affects one in 20,000 – 40,000 people worldwide. It is a genetic condition.

Seizures are difficult to control, while a range of other symptoms also present including sleep disorders, behavioural problems and sensitivity to infections. Most children have normal development when seizures begin but as seizures continue, they typically develop developmental disability and miss developmental milestones.

Dravet can be an extremely difficult condition for both children living with the condition but also for their families, and today is an important day for raising awareness, and recognising all those living with the condition and the families that support them. The constant care required for someone with Dravet Syndrome can severely impact the person’s and the family’s quality of life.

Epilepsy Care Group (Singapore) is the voice for people living with epilepsy and their families. As part of Dravet Syndrome Awareness Day, our key aim is to drive meaningful progress and ensure that families have access to care and support.

We believe that no one with epilepsy should go it alone.
