Our recent field visit to Sumatra (26–29 April 2026) came to a close, but the memories we carry will last far longer. Walking through the villages and meeting the beneficiaries face to face was more than just a mission, it was a profound reminder of what resilience, hope, and community truly look like 🫶

The simplest moments left the deepest impressions. A quiet smile of gratitude as families received household supplies. The quiet strength in their eyes as they shared their hopes for a brighter future, for themselves and for their loved ones. Despite the circumstances, their spirit remains unbroken, and that taught us more than any report ever could.

We are deeply thankful to our partners Mercy Relief and Yayasan PKPA Indonesia for making this experience possible. A special thank you to Yayasan PKPA Indonesia our on-the-ground partner, whose tireless dedication and warm hearts brought us closer to the communities we serve. Here's to more journeys together, hand in hand. ❤️💪

On Saturday, 23rd May, RLAF joined an lively kueh-making session hosted by Kueh Ho Jiak together with the children from 6th Sense 🥮🍡

It was a joyful weekend as our volunteers helped the children and also got hands-on making kueh themselves. Through the process, both volunteers and children connected naturally, sharing laughter and learning along the way.

The session concluded with everyone taking home their very own handmade kueh—and new friendships too. A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers for making this event so special for everyone involved. ❤️

We're also deeply grateful to our partners Kueh Ho Jiak and 6th Sense for the wonderful session and the opportunity to spend time with the children over an interesting and fun activity✨

Following up on our recent field visit to Sumatra, Indonesia from 26th April to 29th April 2026, in response to the devastating landslides and floods that struck in late November last year, the journey of recovery and support continued.

📍Day 3 – Sulum Village
Our team travelled to Sulum Village to witness and support the distribution of hygiene and shelter kits to affected villagers. Along the way, we also visited a newly implemented WASH facility in Juar, a water well providing villagers with improved access to clean water, reducing their reliance on the local mosque as the sole water source.

According to PKPA, more water wells funded through your generous donations will be implemented across several affected villages in the coming months, helping communities regain safer and more sustainable access to clean water. 💧

📍Day 3 – Pematang Durian Village
Following the visits to Sulum Village and Juar, the team continued to Pematang Durian Village, where the distribution efforts carried on. Educational kits were distributed to support children in continuing their education despite the challenges caused by the disaster. These kits included essential school supplies such as stationery, educational books, school shoes, and socks 📚

📍Day 4
The final day of the visit concluded with a summary discussion alongside the local PKPA team at their office in Aceh Tamiang, followed by a meaningful visit to PKPA Headquarters in Medan. These discussions provided deeper insights into PKPA’s ongoing recovery efforts and upcoming plans in utilising the funds raised to continue supporting affected communities across Sumatra.

Overall, this meaningful journey offered valuable insights and perspectives from various stakeholders, strengthening our understanding of how communities continue to recover from the floods and landslides, and how future initiatives can better support their needs.

RLAF would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to our partners Mercy Relief and Yayasan PKPA Indonesia for this inspiring and eye-opening opportunity to witness their impactful work firsthand while engaging directly with the beneficiaries. We look forward to more in the future! 💪❤️

Earlier today, RLAF handed over a symbolic cheque of SGD $754,316 to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as part of the ‘Aid for Gaza 2026’ campaign. The cheque was presented in support of recovery and rehabilitation efforts for affected communities in Gaza.

The cheque handover ceremony was witnessed by Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs, Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. Also present were RLAF Chairman HJ Abdul Razak Maricar, RLAF CEO Mr Adnan Abdul Hamid, and representatives from UNICEF, UNICEF Representative for Pacific Island Countries, Mr Hamish Young and Chief of Private Sector Fundraising UNICEF Malaysia Country Office, Ms Dawn Gosling.

Held from 8 January to 31 March 2026, the Aid for Gaza 2026 campaign was organised by RLAF in collaboration with UNICEF and the Egyptian Red Crescent. The campaign raised a total of SGD $1,508,632 through contributions from the Singapore community via online donations, mosque collections, and corporate and community donations.

The funds under UNICEF will support early recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Gaza, including healthcare services, learning spaces, psychosocial support for displaced children and families, and other priority humanitarian needs based on ground assessments.

We thank all donors, our mosque partners, corporate and community donors, volunteers, and everyone in the Singapore community whose generosity and compassion made this possible.

The remaining SGD $754,316 will be handed over to RLAF’s humanitarian partner, the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), at a later date.

Last year, RLAF launched the Asian Emergency Floods Relief 2025 campaign in response to the devastating landslides and floods in Sumatra, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

📍Day 1 - Aceh Tamiang, Sumatra
Last week, our team travelled to Aceh Tamiang, Sumatra, in collaboration with and to observe ongoing recovery efforts and support the packing and distribution of essential aid, including educational materials, sanitation supplies, and care packs for affected communities across Aceh 📦🩹

Day 1 of the mission began with a meeting and discussion with our on-ground partner, PKPA, alongside a visit to their local office in Aceh Tamiang. The team gained deeper insights into recovery progress across various areas and explored ways to further strengthen efforts for greater impact before proceeding for distributions for the next few days of their visit.

📍Day 2 - Sekumur Village
The team visited two villages. In Sekumur Village, hygiene, shelter kits, and the implementation of healthcare services were disbursed to the residents in the village.

📍Day 2 - Tanjung Glumpang Village
The teams also travelled to Tanjung Glumpang Village, whereby educational kits were distributed to children in the community. We had the privilege and opportunity to meet and engage with the beneficiaries and the village officials from both locations to gain their firsthand perspectives on the challenges faced in supporting their respective communities and households after the floods.

These field visits and engagements provided valuable insights to guide and strengthen our future initiatives. More importantly, they fostered meaningful connections and offered renewed perspectives on how we can better serve and support communities in need 💪
