Founded on 19 November 2001, World Toilet Organization (WTO) is a global non-profit committed to improving toilet and sanitation conditions worldwide. WTO empowers individuals through education, training and building local marketplace opportunities to advocate for clean and safe sanitation facilities in their communities. Breaking the silence on the sanitation crisis is at the heart of WTO's effor

ts. WTO established World Toilet Day and the World Toilet Summit in 2001; this was followed by the World Toilet College in 2005. Through its various initiatives, WTO continues to provide an international platform for toilet associations, governments, academic institutions, foundations, UN agencies and corporate stakeholders to exchange knowledge and leverage media and corporate support in an effort to promote clean sanitation and public health policies. In 2013, WTO achieved a key milestone for the global sanitation movement when the UN General Assembly adopted the Sanitation for All resolution to designate 19 November (WTO's founding day) as an official UN World Toilet Day.

Men and boys — this campaign belongs to you too🩸

Ending period stigma isn't just a women's issue.
It's everyone's issue.

Without menstruation, you do not exist.

Not you. Not your father. Not his father before him.

Menstrual health affects half the world(women) — and the other half has a role to play.

Being an ally doesn't require a grand gesture.

It starts with listening, learning, and refusing to stay silent.

Every human being in the history of this species
is here because of the biology the world told you to ignore.

IT BLEEDS — and you were taught to look away.

IT BUILDS — the very body you live in, right now.

IT BEGINS EVERY LIFE — including the life you are living.

➡️Yet the cycle that gave you life is still whispered about,
taxed, shamed, and underfunded — often by the very people who owe it everything.

That changes when all of us decide it changes.

🩸When fathers teach sons: red is the colour of life — stigma shrinks.

When brothers buy pads without embarrassment — sisters feel seen.

When male colleagues refuse to shame — workplaces become safer.

When men advocate in policy rooms — laws change.

This campaign is for everyone.

Not all period products are created equal — and that's a good thing🩸

👉Here is a quick guide:
▪️ DISPOSABLE PADS
Cost: Low upfront | High long-term
Pros: Widely available, easy to use
Cons: Single-use waste, ongoing cost

▪️ REUSABLE PADS
Cost: Higher upfront | Low long-term
Pros: Eco-friendly, cost-effective over time
Cons: Requires washing, drying

▪️ MENSTRUAL CUPS
Cost: Medium upfront | Very low long-term
Pros: Lasts 5–10 years, minimal waste
Cons: Learning curve, needs clean water

▪️PERIOD UNDERWEAR
Cost: Higher upfront | Low long-term
Pros: Comfortable, reusable
Cons: Requires washing

The right product depends on access, cost, comfort, and context.

What works for you may not work for someone else — and that's okay. What matters is that everyone has a choice.

Myth vs. fact: Let's clear the air around menstruation🩸

It bled long before anyone invented a myth about it.

Let's put those myths where they belong. 🚫

❌ MYTH: Women on their period should stay home.
➡️FACT: Menstruation does not limit capability.

❌ MYTH: You shouldn't exercise during your period.
➡️FACT: Physical activity can actually reduce cramps and improve mood.

❌ MYTH: Periods are dirty or impure.
➡️ FACT: Menstruation is a normal, healthy biological process.

❌ MYTH: Talking about periods is inappropriate.
➡️ FACT: Silence is what causes harm. Open conversations save lives.

The myths hold people back. The facts set them free.

Which myth have you heard most?

🌍🚽For a quarter of a century, World Toilet Organization have turned the taboo topic "toilet" into a global priority

Sanitation is often the most overlooked aspect of global development.
While other critical issues dominate conversations, the lack of clean toilets silently undermines public health, equality, and community well-being every single day.

We have spent over 25 years shining a light on this neglected issue and we won't stop until safe sanitation is a reality for everyone, everywhere.

🌍🚽Public restrooms work best when they’re built for everyone

Mothers with babies, the elderly, people with disabilities, women who need more stalls to cut wait times, and anyone managing health conditions—all deserve safe, clean access.

When we design for inclusion, no one is locked out of public spaces. Every stall, every sign, every detail matters.

Let’s make clean, accessible toilets the standard—not the exception.

♻️Reshare to spread the word.

Clean public toilets don’t happen by accident🚻

Gadgets and fancy toilet designs won’t fix a dirty restroom if nobody’s watching and nobody cares.

Real change comes when we all see toilets as shared spaces—government, businesses, and every user.
➡️Leave it clean
➡️Report faults
➡️Flush it

When we protect dignity and hygiene together, everyone wins.

🌍 World Environment Day

Clean environments create safe spaces for girls to manage their periods with dignity.

➡️A clean toilet.
➡️Running water.
➡️ A private space.

These seem basic — but for millions of menstruating girls and women, they're out of reach.

Without clean environments, period management becomes a crisis.

Girls skip school. Women skip work. Dignity disappears.

On World Environment Day, we connect two urgent issues:
Environmental health and menstrual health are inseparable.

When we invest in clean water, sanitation, and safe spaces — we invest in girls.
