The Saturday Movement

The Saturday Movement We are a registered non-profit charity nourishing bodies & spirits in Singapore. Together let's foster a kind and inclusive world where nobody gets left behind.

We have been providing food, friendship & a listening ear to our beneficiaries since 2010. Inspired by the book “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom, The Saturday Movement is a registered charity in Singapore comprising of volunteers who are proactively reaching out to befriend the elderly and needy families primarily in rental flats. The initiative currently supports about 380 households, 550 be

neficiaries in the Lengkok Bahru area, and also provides food daily for 250 kids at the Christian Paisansart School in Chiangrai. Thus far, our mission has been to:
(A) Feed and befriend the elderly, primarily in rental flats https://www.facebook.com/thesaturdaymovement/

(B) Support the vulnerable children at The Christian Paisansart School in Chiangrai, Thailand

(C) Set up a community kitchen at 57 Lengkok Bahru that employs residents who have lost their jobs and mentor incubator projects for those entering the F&B industry. www.facebook.com/s17communitykitchen

We are strictly non-profit and all the volunteers are doing it with a willing and joyful heart. To support us please visit http://www.thesaturdaymovement.org/

It's 9am on a typical Saturday morning at@ 57A Lengkok Bahru and our volunteers have set up the tables and chairs ready to serve the weekly buffet lunch to our beneficiaries. A sobering read on the issue of malnutrition among elderly Singaporeans and a timely reminder of what drives us at The Saturday Movement to feed and befriend our elderly and needy neighbours.

Malnutrition among the older population is not a problem unique to Singapore. As people age, health problems and social isolation often lead to dietary changes that leave many lacking the protein and calcium they need in their silver years.

Every Saturday, no one eats alone. At least not at Lengkok Bahru, where The Saturday Movement has been feeding our nearly 600 beneficiaries a hot, hearty buffet spread, rain or shine. Our lively Saturday lunch tradition takes place following our weekly door-to-door distribution of bread, fruits, meal vouchers and other essential items. A heartfelt thank you to the students and teachers of Bukit Panjang Government High School for your generosity, energy and care this past Saturday.

Through the school’s Cranes For Good project, and in partnership with Song He Rice, a subsidiary of Tong Seng Produce Pte Ltd, BPGHS donated 2,000kg of rice in 5kg packets to support The Saturday Movement’s beneficiaries.

What touched us even more was seeing the students and teachers come down in person to spend their Saturday afternoon delivering the rice door to door in the hot weather. From loading and pushing trolleys to walking block to block, every effort mattered.

Thank you for not just giving, but for showing up with such willing hearts. Your kindness brought both practical support and encouragement to the families we serve.

On 21 Feb, we celebrated Chinese New Year with our beneficiaries over a joyful lunch featuring a live band, lohei and a hearty Chinese buffet.

We also held a lucky draw with festive hampers, including 5 generously sponsored by Little Farms whom we would like to thank for their support.

We would also like to thank New Creation Church for their generous sponsorship of ang baos and abalone for 330 households.

A special highlight was our God of Fortune handing out chocolate gold coins and spreading festive cheer all around.

Last Wednesday (14 Jan 26) saw corporate volunteers who joined us to distribute grocery packs to 330 households in the community.

The operation involved sorting, packing and on-site distribution, all done within a few hours through tight coordination and genuine commitment from the team.

We are deeply grateful for the time, energy and care contributed. Thank you for standing with the community.
