Two days of practical conversations on what sustainable journalism looks like in the age of AI.
This week, we brought together newsroom leaders from across Asia to the offices of KAS Singapore.
“Newsroom Innovation in the Age of AI: New Models for Sustainable Journalism.”
This workshop aimed to move the conversation beyond abstract debates about technology and focus on practical newsroom experiences, examining how technological innovation, new revenue strategies, and organisational change can help news organisations build more resilient and sustainable models for journalism.
Over two days, participants explored how AI can streamline workflows, free up editorial capacity, and create space for revenue experiments and new audience products. By the end of the workshop, each organisation left with a ready-to-run controlled AI experiment, along with clear accountability, guardrails, success metrics, and a defined pathway toward sustainable revenue opportunities.
Grateful to our participants, session leaders Alan Soon, Janie Octia, and Yan Naung Oak, with special thanks to Yannick Dillinger (Rheinpfalz) for his perspectives from Europe. Now the real work begins: Harnessing technology to power sustainable journalism strategies.
