In today’s fast-paced and constantly evolving world, balancing fatherhood with work responsibilities can make the journey of learning new skills even more challenging. Through our 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗖𝗖𝗟), working fathers in manufacturing can access opportunities to upskill and reskill — strengthening their capabilities, advancing their careers, and creating a better future for their families.

This month, we featured Irwan Moideen, Founder of TI MedTech, industrial-academic practitioner, adjunct lecturer, and father of three. Through his many roles and responsibilities, Irwan shares how his values and beliefs guide the way he balances work and family. For him, spending quality time with his family — even through the simplest moments — brings energy and purpose. He hopes to pass these values on to his children as they grow.

We also featured Teo Chi Howe, Senior Business Manager at the Singapore Manufacturing Federation and lead for the JS-SEZ initiative. Working closely with companies exploring expansion opportunities into Johor, Chi Howe shares how his professional journey and experiences as a father have shaped his perspectives, values, and approach to making an impact.

We are proud to spotlight SPIN Fans as a recipient of the Best Sustainability Practice Award at the Singapore Innovation and Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2026. Their efforts go beyond surface-level initiatives, including transitioning to EV delivery vehicles, removing styrofoam from packaging, and engineering energy-efficient fans powered by their proprietary Ultra Dynamic DC Motor (UDDC™). This technology achieves up to 70% energy savings compared to conventional AC motors and delivers around 20% greater efficiency than standard DC motors.

SPIN Fans exemplifies what it means to embed sustainability at the core of a business, not as an add-on but as a guiding principle in design, operations, and innovation.

At COMPUTEX 2026, themed “AI Together - Powering the Future of Tech”, delegates explored one of the world’s leading AIoT and technology platforms — discovering innovations across GPUs, CPUs, mega-scale AI computing, Robotics & Mobility, and next-generation solutions driving industrial transformation.

Today, we celebrate the fathers in our industry — the ones clocking in at the plant floor, leading teams through digital transformation, and still making it home in time to be Dad. In today's reality, where most households have both parents working, fathers are doing more caregiving than ever before. Flexible work arrangements, fair parental leave, and a culture that doesn't penalise fathers for showing up for their families aren't just nice-to-haves; they're what helps working dads thrive both at home and on the job.

At SMF, we also believe that supporting fathers means supporting their growth. Through our Centre for Corporate Learning (CCL), working fathers in manufacturing can upskill and reskill — building the capabilities to advance their careers and provide better for their families.

This Father's Day, we talk to Teo Chi Howe, a senior business manager at Singapore Manufacturing Federation who leads the JS-SEZ initiative.

For Singapore manufacturers, expanding into Johor is rarely a straightforward call — it's a weighty decision with real operational complexity on the other side. Chi Howe's role is to walk alongside them through that process: visiting their facilities, understanding their operations, and helping them think through whether the move makes sense for their specific business.

SMF hosted a delegation from Austin, Texas, for a roundtable discussion on opportunities for collaboration in manufacturing, innovation, and economic development.

The session brought together delegates from the City of Austin, led by Ms Genesis Gavino (Chief of Staff, Office of City Manager), and the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce (GAACC), led by Mr David Teo (Chair-Elect, Board of Directors), alongside stakeholders from Singapore’s manufacturing community. Participants exchanged views on strengthening business linkages and fostering partnerships across advanced manufacturing, technology, energy, and entrepreneurship.

The engagement comes amid growing momentum in Singapore–Austin relations, following the opening of Enterprise Singapore’s Austin Overseas Centre and broader efforts to deepen economic cooperation between the two ecosystems.

We thank the delegation for the valuable conversations and look forward to building new connections and exploring opportunities for collaboration between Singapore and Austin.

Over 10,000 participants spent the weekend at Marina Barrage for Great Green Run 2026 running, walking, exploring sustainability-themed booths, taking part in games and activities and simply coming together as a community in support of a meaningful cause.

Singapore Manufacturing Federation (SMF) is proud to support this meaningful initiative as the official Sustainability Partner alongside the organisers (TriFactor Asia and Modellscape Studio) with CIMB Singapore as the main sponsor, all of whom played an important role in bringing this impactful event to life.

We were honoured to have SMF President Lennon Tan join the guest of honour Dr Janil Puthucheary, together with the organisers and partners, in officially flagging off the event and supporting this collective effort towards a more sustainable future.

What stood out most throughout the weekend was seeing sustainability brought beyond discussions and into action with people of all ages spending time together, learning, engaging and being reminded that building a greener future is something that involves all of us.

At SMF, this belief continues to guide our work, including through our CSO-as-a-Service (CSOaaS) programme, where we work closely with businesses to help them take practical and meaningful steps in their sustainability journey.

A big thank you to the organisers, partners, volunteers and every participant who showed up with energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to positive change. Together, we are proving that sustainability is not just a destination - it's a movement powered by people.

With Father's Day approaching, we are proud to spotlight some amazing fathers in the manufacturing sector.

Dr. Irwan Moideen, Founder of TI MedTech, industrial-academic practitioner, adjunct lecturer, and father of three. While technopreneur is often seen as a highly logical field, Irwan believes that logic and empathy must go hand in hand. This philosophy shapes both his leadership and TI MedTech's strong commitment to education. Despite the demands of balancing multiple roles, he draws strength from the support of his family and community, allowing him to continue making an impact in BioMedTech innovation and education.

Away from work, Irwan values simple moments with his family whether reading, drawing, picnic or cycling. As a strong advocate of a screen-free home environment, he believes outdoor activities and hands-on learning play an important role in shaping character and curiosity. He encourages his children to see setbacks as opportunities for growth and to pursue their passions with dedication.

💬 "The most important value I hope to pass down to my children is to pursue something they genuinely love and become so good at it that one day, others will seek their help and guidance. I want them to understand that success is not about competing with others, but about continuously improving themselves, becoming a better person today than they were yesterday, and even better tomorrow than they are today."
