A registered arts charity and curious place for children from birth to nine years old, to explore and imagine, with drop-in programmes on the weekend.

The Artground is an arts space for children aged 9 and under which draws inspiration from the poem, The Hundred Languages of Children. We are an accessible space that aims to provide positive arts experiences across a variety of art forms and our vision to let art do, what art does defines what we do. The Artground endeavours to be the epicenter of unique artistic experiences for young audiences through the artists who use us as a space to inspire and create.

The Artground encourages everyone who visits our center to be creative by offering opportunities for the child and the artist to remain inquisitive for life. Our primary arts programmes and ancillary workshops that go beyond the arts realm, facilitate learning through play and empower children to express themselves in a hundred ways. We want to keep everyone thinking, questioning, exploring, appreciating and discovering, as artists.

Back from Jogja!

From Singapore to Perth, Adelaide, and now Yogyakarta. Since its premiere at the National Museum of Singapore in August 2022, Hutan has travelled across stages and festivals.

This time, the forest took on a new life as at International Puppet Biennale in Indonesia . A familiar forest, perhaps, but never quite the same one. New hands, new encounters, and new ways of seeing.

As Pesta Boneka 10 comes to a close, we return home carrying another chapter of this forest with us.

Shoutout to Papermoon Puppet Theatre Sensorium Theatre UNESCO Jakarta Temasek Foundation who helped this forest find its way to Jogja 💚

And just like that, we’ve come to the end of White at the WhiteBox.

We had such a lovely time with Cotton and Wrinkle, watching them go from a world of white to one filled with little splashes of colour. More than anything, it was really special seeing the children’s faces, their reactions and all the little moments of wonder that happened along the way.

It feels a little bittersweet knowing that this was our last White before The Artground at Goodman Arts Centre closes at the end of December.

But we’re not quite done yet.

Before we say goodbye to TAG at GAC, we’d love for you to join us for one final celebration.

Save the date! 19 & 20 December.

We’re planning a TAG Closing Party / Fundraising Event, and we’d love to have our community with us as we celebrate everything The Artground has been and the many people who have made it possible.

The Playmakers is back at One Holland Village this October 2026! 🎈

A child-led, open-ended play experience for little ones aged 6 months to 3 years. At The Playmakers, children explore, create, and learn through play in a safe, welcoming space designed just for them. With no fixed rules, every session is full of possibilities from discovering everyday and upcycled materials to making new friends and building confidence.

Parents and caregivers are invited to relax, connect, and observe as their child takes the lead. Ruby | Educator | The Playmakers Founder will be on hand to share observations and simple ideas on how you can continue facilitating playful learning at home.

Heads up! Things might get a little messy, so bring along a small towel and an extra set of clothes.

Week 1: Under the sea adventure

For ages: 6 months - 3 years (admission up to 4 years)

Ticket Price: $35 per child, $15 per adult (Tickets available for up to 2 accompanying adults per child for this programme.)

Duration: 2 hours (Participants can arrive at any time, step out for a break, and return within the 2-hour slot. We recommend spending at least 45 minutes in the Playmakers space to fully experience the session. Explore Lost Islands will also be accessible during your 2-hour slot.)

So many wonderful memories were made at Goodman Arts Centre. We’re taking a little trip down memory lane and looking back at some of the special moments that filled the WhiteBox over the years!

The heart and soul of The Artground at GAC, the WhiteBox is a cosy theatre and multi-purpose space with the warmth of a black box, reimagined with a lighter and brighter feel. It has been a space where children from birth to age 9 could discover and grow their curiosity through meaningful arts experiences, including performances created for babies and young audiences.

WhiteBox has also been a nurturing home for artists in the art for young audiences sector. Through artist development platforms such as GroundBreakers and AirTAG, it has been a space to gather, rehearse, experiment, play and bring new ideas to life.
Beyond performances, WhiteBox has hosted ASSITEJ meetings and town halls, and welcomed families through weekend programmes, venue-supported performances and special events filled with joy and discovery.

Just outside is The Good Garden, a children’s urban food garden by Cultivate Central . One of the programmes held there was Little Green Thumbs, where young children explored urban gardening through activities such as mixing soil, planting seeds, observing worms and creating nature-inspired art and crafts. Guided by permaculture principles, it was a place to grow food, creativity, collaboration and a love for the natural world, while helping children discover what it means to care for and nurture things as they grow.

Open Canvas Club at The Artground is a flexible, child-led art and play space for neurodiverse and neurotypical kids (6–12). Each 3-hour session lets children move freely between the Workshop Space and a designated Explore/Sensory Play Space, choosing how they want to participate.

Some kids make art the whole time; others flow between making, exploring, playing, and quiet breaks before returning when ready. The goal: nurture organic social interaction, empathy, and peer connection in a low-pressure setting through shared art and play. Every child leaves with an individual artwork or a section of a shared masterwork.

Programme Details:
* Me, Myself, and More: 8 & 9 Sep, 9.30am–12.30pm
* Let’s Grow a Garden: 9 Sep, 2–5pm
* Potter-ing About: 11 Sep, 2–5pm

Venue: The Artground, One Holland Village

Groups are small (max 10) so facilitators can connect with each child. Drop-off is welcome for children ready to join independently; parents/caregivers can also stay and participate. Full-day options are available for families seeking a longer school-holiday experience.

We hope kids leave with new friendships, new materials, more confidence to join a group, and the feeling that there’s a place for them in the community!✨

Welcome to the world of White. Full of birdsong and birdhouses, it gleams and dazzles and shines in the night. Two friends look after the birdhouses and make sure the eggs stay safe. The world is bright, ordered and white. But high up in the trees, all is not white. Colour appears. First red… then yellow… then blue…
