The Artground

The Artground A registered arts charity and curious place for children from birth to nine years old, to explore and imagine, with drop-in programmes on the weekend.

The Artground is an arts space for children aged 9 and under which draws inspiration from the poem, The Hundred Languages of Children. We are an accessible space that aims to provide positive arts experiences across a variety of art forms and our vision to let art do, what art does defines what we do. The Artground endeavours to be the epicenter of unique artistic experiences for young audiences t

hrough the artists who use us as a space to inspire and create.

“The child is made of one hundred. The child has a hundred languages
a hundred hands
a hundred thoughts
a hundred ways of thinking
of playing, of speaking. a hundred, always a hundred
ways of listening
of marveling, of loving
a hundred joys
for singing and understanding
a hundred worlds to discover
a hundred worlds to invent
a hundred worlds to dream.”

- Excerpt from, The Hundred Languages of Children by Loris Malaguzzi. The Artground encourages everyone who visits our center to be creative by offering opportunities for the child and the artist to remain inquisitive for life. Our primary arts programmes and ancillary workshops that go beyond the arts realm, facilitate learning through play and empower children to express themselves in a hundred ways. We want to keep everyone thinking, questioning, exploring, appreciating and discovering, as artists.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
– Picasso

Welcome to the world of White. Full of birdsong and birdhouses, it gleams and dazzles and shines in the night. Two friends look after the birdhouses and make sure the eggs stay safe. The world is bright, ordered and white. But high up in the trees, all is not white. Colour appears. First red… then yellow… then blue…

White is back, and early bird tickets are now live!

Welcome to the world of White, where everything gleams in the purest shades of white. Two friends are on a mission to keep those bird eggs snug and safe. But hold onto your hats. Up in the trees, colours begin sneaking in. First a curious green, then a bold red, and before you know it, a bright burst of sunny yellow.

Suddenly, the world’s not so monochrome anymore! How will our friends handle this surprising spleash of colour? Join Cotton and Wrinkle on a playful journey as they discover the magic, wonder, and joy of embracing a little colour in their lives.

White is a playful, highly visual show for very young children, and the perfect first theatre experience.

For children 3 to 6 years old.

Join our curious Collector on a journey of discovery as she wanders through the world, gathering little treasures along the way. But when the rain begins to fall, her adventure shifts indoors. Can she find the same magic and joy within the four walls of home?

HOUSE by Stan, is an intimate live theatre performance specifically created for children aged 15 months to 3 years. Designed as a gentle first introduction to theatre, HOUSE gives toddlers the freedom to learn through play, curiosity, and exploration. As they experience the performance, children naturally build language through hearing new words in context, develop an early sense of rhythm through live sound, and grow in sensory confidence in a calm, supportive environment made just for them.

Beyond the Performance: The Discovery Session

The experience doesn’t end when the performance does. After the show, children are invited to step out of their “houses” and into the Collector’s world for a guided Discovery Session. This hands-on experience gives little ones the chance to meet the Collector up close, explore the performance space from a new perspective, and engage with the sensory elements from the show - from natural textures and sparkling treasures to playful sounds. It’s a special opportunity for children to deepen their connection to the story through touch, play, and shared discovery with their grown-ups.
