L'Observatoire at Blue House

L'Observatoire at Blue House L'Observatoire at Blue House offers one-month experimental residencies for artists, scientists, tinkerers.

Facilitated by Isabelle Desjeux, in-house artist and mentor. L'Observatoire was set up as a residency programme by artist Isabelle Desjeux and Blue House International Preschool in January 2017 as a means to develop a symbiotic relationship between local arts practitioners and the Blue House community at large. We invite artists to propose experimental projects where the risk is understood. We pro

vide the tools, mentorship, community networking, and a safe space where the artist can create freely and develop their ideas. In turn, resident artists are expected to share some of their processes and techniques with the school community. Nonetheless, the studio remains as a safe yet experimental space for artists to utilise.

The school community gets to engage with a diverse pool of artists at work, while artists-in-residence are presented with the opportunity to interact with school-going children, parents, and staff members, all of whom they may not encounter otherwise. Thus, sites of the artist residency can expand into a robust space for the artist's project development, as well as conversations and exchange of ideas across communities. The studio offers a one-month residency, the outcome of which emphasises the sharing of experience and processes rather than conventional modes of art exhibitions. Currently, the residency is by invitation only, for artists who can work collaboratively on specific themes that are being explored.

Bye bye l'Obs! It's been a good 7 years sharing this space with artists, children from and beyond, making art, making science, playing with curiosity,
20 artist-in-residence, more artworks created than can be counted, collaborations initiated.
I am grateful for the great support i received for this simple artist-led project. I was Invited to occupy the space by who believed in my vision of sharing my way of seeing the wold through art, and the rest of the team at Blue House including and the Office.
Finally the best supporters and collaborators throughout the years and all the way to the painful end of dismantling and getting rid of so many emotionally charged objects : Jalil (left) and Raj (right).
L'Obs might close at Turf Club (a road will go through it), but I will continue operations from my backyard. I look forwart to continued collaborations. Do reach out !

We might forget but throwing away furniture and buying new is not sustainable! These shelves look pretty much like what you get from Ikea - but they are better for the environment and cheaper (free if you tell me why I should give them to you).

Today I took the Weeds Table to the Kindle Garden in the Enabling Village. I am so happy they were keen and had the space to host it! I will be back in the new year to install it and make it work. In the meantime, today and tomorrow is the Open House of the Enabling Village. Check them out!

Goodbye Mrs P. You will be happy there!
I adopted you 20 years ago from printmakers Tamae and Eitaro. You delighted thousands of schoolkids who fought to turn your wheel. Now i can foresee a new generation of experimental printmakers will delight in the smooth bed, soft blanket, heavy roller. Thank you for adopting her ! Mrs P looks snug in your beautiful studio. I will see you both soon ! Looking forward to playful workshops and beautiful prints.
