Community Marketplace is where purpose meets action. Bringing businesses and community partners together to spark meaningful collaborations that create lasting social impact.

Launched in 2024 by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Patron of the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Foundation, Community Marketplace has grown into an anchor platform to connect businesses to community partners and charities, activating corporate purpose by driving inclusive hiring and volunteerism through corporate and community support.

Earlier this year, a locale-focused edition in the West brought together 72 corporates and 13 community partners. In collaboration with SG Cares Volunteer Centres in Jurong, Jurong East and Boon Lay, the curated event facilitated and accelerated strategic partnerships that address real community needs.

What is stopping your business from unlocking the untapped potential of inclusive hiring?

The Circular Classroom (TCC) took the leap and discovered that inclusive hiring does not just fill positions, it transforms organisations. When they welcomed Pluto to their team, they gained more than a dedicated employee. His deep empathy and quiet resilience, shaped by his lived experience, became catalysts for sustainable impact.

This is the ripple effect of inclusive hiring - it transforms lives, strengthens teams, and builds purposeful businesses.

At SBF Foundation, our programmes are designed to move organisations through three stages of impact - Awareness, Adoption, and Advocacy.

We help corporates build awareness of the social challenges shaping our workforce, translate that understanding into adoption through purpose-driven practices, and advocate for change by enabling them to champion and scale inclusive impact across their networks.

In our upcoming events line-up, corporates can look forward to a suite of programmes intentionally designed to support this journey โ€” from inclusive hiring and strategic partnerships to corporate volunteering.

Last Saturday, New Hope Community Services hosted the Employability Festival, connecting jobseekers from vulnerable communities with purpose-driven employers offering meaningful work.

Employers are the key enablers of employability outcomes. When businesses move beyond traditional hiring and embrace inclusive practices, they address manpower needs while providing the stability and dignity essential for vulnerable individuals and families to thrive.

The festival highlighted the impact of collaboration among businesses and community partners. Together, we are breaking down systemic barriers that no single organisation can dismantle alone.

Business success today is no longer just about growth - itโ€™s about impact.

Last Friday, over 200 business leaders came together at the Singapore Business Federation (SBF)โ€™s Quarterly Membersโ€™ Orientation to learn, connect and grow.

Held quarterly, the orientation provides a valuable platform for new members to better understand SBFโ€™s ecosystem and how they can get involved. The session offered members a closer look at SBF and SBF Foundation (SBFF)โ€™s wide range of initiatives, from policy advocacy and business support to programmes that drive meaningful social impact.

A sharing by Jeffrey Tan, Director of Programmes and Partnerships, who presented on SBFFโ€™s social initiatives and how businesses can contribute to the Socially Impactful Action Agenda, sparked meaningful interest in inclusive hiring and the role companies can play in driving positive social outcomes. He added that inclusive hiring is not CSR, but rather a valuable manpower solution for resource strapped businesses.

Together with our partners from Social Sustainability Division (SSD), we also hosted a booth to further spotlight the agenda. Through an interactive โ€œspin-the-wheelโ€ activity, attendees learned more about inclusive hiring and discovered simple, actionable ways where they can contribute to building a more inclusive workplace.

It was heartening to see members not only curious but genuinely interested in how they can be part of this movement. The conversations and connections made throughout the session reflects a growing interest within the business community to drive positive social impact.
