Let’s welcome Yu Xuan, our new programme assistant! ✨🦊

Yu Xuan will be keeping things moving behind the scenes, while helping to nurture the stories, moments, and connections that take shape through our programmes. Currently studying sociology at Singapore University of Social Sciences, her curiosity and imaginative nature drew her to ArtsWok:

“The arts have always been a form of self-exploration to me and I appreciate how it makes difficult topics easier to unpack. Seeing ArtsWok’s approach to facilitating end-of-life conversations in Both Sides, Now really piqued my interest. The idea of serving communities through the arts felt like a perfect amalgamation of my background in both theatre and sociology. I’m excited to be part of the team for the next few months!”

End-of-life conversations can often feel daunting, yet they are some of the most vital interactions we have. How do we move past our own internal barriers to provide grounded, compassionate support as community-engaged practitioners?

Presenting “Navigating End-of-Life Conversations with Confidence”, this one-day drama-based workshop is designed to help you hone your communication skills and examine your own attitudes toward death and dying. Through creative, reflective activities led by artist-facilitators Adib Kosnan and Michael Cheng, you’ll leave feeling more assured to hold these conversations with greater clarity and intention.

Our pilot phase of “Piece of Mine” has been a success!

What started as "quiet curiosity" grew into a space for over 40 seniors to reflect on end-of-life matters with honesty and joy. Swipe through to see the unscripted moments — the laughter, the deep thinking, and the courage it takes to say, "This is what matters to me."

Special thanks to our partners, artist-facilitators, workshop assistants, and donors who have made all of this possible!

Between drafting emailers, taking meeting minutes, and observing workshops, our former interns, Ashley and Ryan, reflect on their shift from theory to practice — and what it really takes to create work that resonates with communities.

In our latest Project Journal, “Six Months in the Wok”, they share how what began as an internship evolved into a journey of discovery.

Thank you to those who joined us for AWGS #26: Advocating Your Practice to Diverse Stakeholders! 🙌

Here’s what happened at the session:
Drawing on her year-long community project in Yishun, Salty recounted how she approached various stakeholder relationships and offered her key considerations when sharing the heart of the work while maintaining respect for those involved. Participants then applied these insights to their own practice by mapping stakeholder challenges, and exploring how to distill the essence of their work through writing. We ended with a thoughtful discussion on learning new ‘languages’ for different audiences, and what mediums might best capture the depth of our work within practical constraints.

Until the next ArtsWok Greenhouse Session! 🌿

“In so many ways, they’ve helped guide me on the path I’m on now.” 🌿

We’re spotlighting Aini today not just because of her 4-year milestone, but because she reminds us why we do this work. In a world that often feels siloed, she found her "comfort blanket" in the honest, messy, and beautiful conversations that happen when people from all walks of life gather together.

As a non-artist, Aini proves that community-building isn't about your job title — it’s about showing up. Swipe through to hear her thoughts on growth and belonging.

💬 But we want to hear from you too! What does "community" feel like to you? Is it a spark of energy, or something else entirely? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
