When multiple stakeholders collaborate in community arts, how do we ensure our language connects rather than divides?

Introducing the ArtsWok Glossary! Learn more about the language we use, what key terms mean in our work, and how we apply them across our projects.

To mark the launch, our former intern Ryan pulls back the curtain in his reflection, “On the Weight of Our Words” to reveal how our new glossary came to be.

Ever stopped to think about the real weight of your words?

Here at ArtsWok, we can spend months debating, rewriting, and unlearning common buzzwords to make sure the language we use honours the communities we work with. It’s a meticulous practice — and an often unexpected lesson for anyone joining our team.

In our latest Project Journal, “On the Weight of Our Words”, our former marketing and communication intern Ryan shares how the words we choose could change everything.

Piece by piece, we are building a community of care, and you’re a vital part of it. 🫶

Join us for our second fundraiser dinner, “Piecing it Together!” On 29 August, we’re gathering for an intimate evening of warm hospitality, delicious food, and the joy of crafting.

The programme for the evening is inspired by our "Piece of Mine" workshop series, which guides seniors through self-reflection and builds community. You'll get to experience a slice of this yourself — creating your own zine to express what matters to you while connecting with fellow guests!

🎟️ Seats are limited! Reserve your seat or make a direct donation here – https://give.asia/campaign/artswok-fundraiser-dinner-2026 #/story

Whether you join us at the table or choose to donate directly, your generosity fuels a continuous circle of care for Singapore’s seniors. This ensures that “Piece of Mine” reaches more seniors in their neighbourhoods and equips the next generation of artist-facilitators with the right skills to support them.

Let’s zine, dine, and piece something beautiful together! 💛

Huge thanks to Knots Cafe by Xpressflower for their kind venue support. 🌿✨

Let’s welcome Yu Xuan, our new programme assistant! ✨🦊

Yu Xuan will be keeping things moving behind the scenes, while helping to nurture the stories, moments, and connections that take shape through our programmes. Currently studying sociology at Singapore University of Social Sciences, her curiosity and imaginative nature drew her to ArtsWok:

“The arts have always been a form of self-exploration to me and I appreciate how it makes difficult topics easier to unpack. Seeing ArtsWok’s approach to facilitating end-of-life conversations in Both Sides, Now really piqued my interest. The idea of serving communities through the arts felt like a perfect amalgamation of my background in both theatre and sociology. I’m excited to be part of the team for the next few months!”
