SICCI marked Singaporeโ€™s National Day with our National Day Observance Ceremony earlier today, bringing together current and former Board Directors, members, business partners and invited guests.

We were honoured to welcome Mr Foo Cexiang, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC, as our Guest of Honour. From 1 September 2026, Mr Foo will take up appointments as Minister of State in both the Ministry of Trade & Industry and the Singapore Ministry of Manpower - two portfolios highly relevant to Singaporeโ€™s business community.

Under this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œMajulah Singapura, Go Beyond!โ€, SICCI Chairman, Mr Rajakumar Chandra reflected on how the 102-year-old Chamber can continue building on its heritage while evolving to meet the changing needs of businesses.

Mr Rajakumar highlighted stronger member engagement, closer partnerships with government agencies and business organisations, and greater support for companies seeking to grow and scale. He identified Technology and Artificial Intelligence, together with internationalisation, as among SICCIโ€™s key priorities.

In his remarks, Mr Foo said he was glad to meet the SICCI community and echoed Mr Rajakumarโ€™s emphasis on AI and internationalisation.

As the new Board begins its term, SICCI looks forward to working closely with members, industry partners and government agencies to strengthen support and create more opportunities for our business community.

SICCI Vice Chairman, Mr Jagdish Prasad Jaiswal, represented the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry at the Mango Festival held on 7 August 2026, at the invitation of H.E. Ms Rabia Shafiq, High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Singapore.

The event, which marked 60 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore, was graced by Guest of Honour Mr Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs, Singapore, and brought together members of the diplomatic, business and community sectors.

SICCI welcomes platforms that strengthen bilateral engagement and create opportunities for deeper business and economic cooperation.

As Singapore and Pakistan commemorate this milestone, SICCI looks forward to supporting stronger trade, investment and business collaboration between the two countries.

โ€‹National Day is an opportunity for us to reflect on Singaporeโ€™s extraordinary journey and to renew our commitment to her progress.

โ€‹Our nation's success has always been driven by the indomitable spirit of our people. Time and again, Singaporeans have overcome challenges and dedicated themselves to the ongoing work of nation-building. As we navigate increasing complexities and uncertainties posed by geopolitical upheavals and technological shifts, this very same spirit must & will continue to guide Singapore towards a stronger, more resilient future.

โ€‹Since our inception, SICCI has been honoured to contribute to Singaporeโ€™s nation-building efforts, and we have done so significantly. Generations of Indian entrepreneurs and businesses have proudly enriched Singaporeโ€™s economy as well as its cultural tapestry. Crucially, these contributions were not made in isolation, but shoulder-to-shoulder with those of all communities, united by a common determination that Singapore must succeed.

โ€‹SICCI remains as committed as ever, to serving our members, supporting our enterprises, especially our SMEs, and in doing so, meaningfully contributing towards the holistic prosperity of our nation.

While India presents significant opportunities for Singapore businesses, navigating the market and finding the right support can be a complex journey. This was at the heart of SICCIโ€™s member engagement with Invest India on 27 July 2026.

The Invest India team was led by Vice President and Country Head Mr. Rishi Raj, alongside Mr. Divyam Duggal, Mr. Aman Jain, and Ms. Priya Sharma.

Mr Jagdish Prasad Jaiswal, Vice Chairman, welcomed the Invest India delegation to our Chamber on behalf of Chairman, Mr Rajakumar Chandra and the SICCI Board of Directors. Mr Rishi Raj, along with his team was very grateful for the warm welcome and active engagement by the Chamber. The initial closed-door session between the Board and the Invest India team led to a successful session with members.

Welcoming members from a broad cross-section of industries, SICCI Vice-Chairman Mr. Parthiban Murugaiyan set a collaborative tone for the engagement. He urged members to engage the Invest India team candidly, voice their challenges, and keep the conversation focused on finding solutions.

The discussion centered on practical operations. Invest India outlined its end-to-end support for expanding companies - from identifying optimal locations and tax incentives to streamlining approvals and resolving operational bottlenecks.

SICCI members raised critical concerns and proposals regarding investment, setup, and technology:

๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ๐ฒ ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ฎ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ: SICCI Vice-Chairman Mr. J P Jaiswal raised questions on long-term investor protection when governments change and administration priorities shift.

The Invest India team gave a detailed presentation on its structure and effectiveness in hand-holding international investors towards their investments in India. Responding to membersโ€™ queries, the team reaffirmed its commitment to hands-on support and long-term partnership.

Closing the session, Mr. Rishi Raj invited SICCI members to bring forward live investment opportunities and operational issues, emphasizing that Invest India works directly with companies to help their projects advance.

The engagement established a direct channel between SICCI members and Indiaโ€™s national facilitation agency, enabling Singapore businesses to expand with more confidence.

The session will include a presentation by Invest India on business and investment opportunities in India, followed by a question-and-answer discussion with members.

SICCI Hosts SIPF Students for "The SG Experience"

SICCI was pleased to host students from universities in Pune, Chennai and Coimbatore, as part of the SIPF Immersion Programme, โ€œThe SG Experienceโ€, on 17 July 2026.

Jointly organised by the Singapore-India Partnership Foundation and the Institute of South Asian Studies - NUS, the visit introduced students to SICCIโ€™s efforts to support businesses, entrepreneurship and Singaporeโ€“India ties.

Welcoming the delegation, SICCI Vice-Chairman Mr Parthiban Murugaiyan highlighted the importance of SMEs, adaptability and strong business networks. He described Singapore as a transparent, pro-business and globally connected base, with strong government support for foreign companies seeking to establish and grow their operations. He encouraged the students to consider Singapore as a future business base, particularly if they wished to pursue entrepreneurship and expand internationally, and noted that SICCI could help connect them with relevant partners, agencies and support networks. He also urged them to pursue entrepreneurship with confidence, while remaining prepared to learn from challenges and setbacks.

During the interactive session, Mr Dinesh Verma encouraged students to identify genuine market opportunities, conduct proper research and maintain realistic expectations. He emphasised that entrepreneurs must be ready to work across multiple roles, particularly when resources are limited.

Mr Harree Anand Babu shared lessons from his companyโ€™s expansion beyond Singapore, noting that technical capability must be matched by strong relationships, humility and a willingness to remain grounded.

Ms Veenaa Subramaniam explained how business chambers act as a bridge between enterprises and government, conveying ground-level needs while helping to implement support programmes. She also stressed that while technology and AI can improve productivity and visibility, trust, emotional intelligence and human judgement remain essential.

Ms Renuka Arora Bhagat advised aspiring entrepreneurs to test their ideas, gain relevant experience and be prepared to change direction when circumstances demand it. She reminded students that entrepreneurship requires research, resilience and full commitment.

The students had thoughtful questions about entrepreneurship, sustainability, digital infrastructure, Singapore-India collaboration and business expansion, while reflecting positively on Singaporeโ€™s multiculturalism, accessibility and strong institutions.

SICCI extends its appreciation to Ms Sithara Doriasamy for coordinating the programme, and to Dr. Priya Dharshini Arunachalam and Mr Prasad Bachhav for accompanying and guiding the delegation.

The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI) is pleased to announce the co-option of Mr Prakash Somosundram and Ms Renuka Arora Bhagat as Board Directors for the 2026โ€“2028 term.

Both appointments were unanimously approved by the Board, and took effect on 11 July 2026.

Mr Prakash Somosundram brings extensive experience and expertise in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, while Ms Renuka Bhagat brings strong capabilities in media, branding, public relations and technology transformation programs.

Their appointments further strengthen the Board by broadening the range of professional expertise and perspectives available to the Chamber. They will draw on their respective areas of experience to support the Boardโ€™s priorities, enhance SICCIโ€™s engagement with its members and stakeholders, and further the Chamberโ€™s mission.

SICCI warmly welcomes Mr Prakash Somosundram and Ms Renuka Arora Bhagat to the Board and looks forward to their contributions during the 2026โ€“2028 term.

SICCI Vice-Chairman Mr Parthiban Murugaiyan represented the Chamber at the launch of the Alliance for Action on Integration of Foreign Professionals (AfA-IFP) Report on 10 July 2026 at the Asian Civilisations Museum.

The report was launched during Culture@Work: Onboarding for EP Holders, organised by SGTech with the support of the Singapore Business Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth - MCCY.

The launch was officiated by AfA-IFP Co-Chairs Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash เฎคเฎฟเฎฉเฏ‡เฎทเฏ เฎตเฎพเฎšเฏ เฎคเฎพเฎธเฏ ่ฟชๅ…งๅธŒ, Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth and Manpower, and Mr Marcus Lam, Honorary Treasurer of SNEF and Deputy Honorary Treasurer of SBF, together with Mr Dutch Ng, Vice-Chairman of SGTech.

Convened by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), Singapore Business Federation and Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF), the AfA-IFP brought together employers, business leaders and Trade Associations and Chambers to identify practical ways to strengthen integration between local and foreign professionals.

The report sets out five initiatives, including the EP Journey for Employment Pass holders, TAC-led Orientation Days, an Integration Playbook for employers, cultural sensitivity training, and a central repository of workplace and community resources.

SICCI is one of six Trade Associations and Chambers that have agreed to publicise AfA-IFP resources and pilot the TAC-led Orientation Day from July 2026 onwards. These programmes will help foreign professionals better understand Singaporeโ€™s workplace and social norms, connect with others in their industries, and gain a deeper appreciation of Singaporeโ€™s multicultural society.

For SICCI, the initiative is especially relevant to member companies, including SMEs that may require practical support to build more inclusive workplaces. Stronger integration can help businesses improve collaboration, strengthen trust among employees and make better use of diverse talent.

SICCI looks forward to supporting these efforts and working with its members and partners to foster cohesive, productive and inclusive workplaces.
