New Life Community Services Supporting vulnerable children, families, youths and seniors through practical care and support.

New Life Community Services (New Life or NLCS) is a social service agency passionate about serving children, youth, and seniors in the community. We operate twelve childcare centres, three student care centres and two youth hubs with an emphasis on imparting life skills and character values to the next generation. We conduct literacy and character mentoring programmes for disadvantaged children, as well as after-school engagement programmes and groupwork for youths. We also believe in improving the situations of marginalised families with schooling children so that the latter will be adequately supported as they grow up. To that end, we provide families with financial assistance, casework management and counselling to address financial and social issues. We conduct active ageing programmes to support the needs of the elderly, an often isolated and marginalised group in society. Our faith-based ethos motivates us to love and care for each person with the love that our God shows to us. Over the years, we have reached out to thousands of individuals from different religions and races – with absolutely no strings attached.

Do you spot yourselves in the images? 👀✨

We had a lovely time celebrating our volunteers across a couple of Volunteer Appreciation Nights last month, with plenty of smiles, laughter and, not to forget, food! 🍽️

It was a wonderful opportunity for us to come together, reminisce the moments we have shared, and most importantly, say thank you to the many volunteers who give their time, energy and care to support our work.

Whether you lend a hand at our programmes, events or in the community, your contributions make a difference to the children, youths, seniors, and families we serve.

Ageing with dignity means ensuring no senior has to navigate life’s shifts alone. ⁠

Following a stroke in 2020, Mr. Goh faced the difficult loss of his speech, making daily connection an uphill journey.⁠
⁠
After a few initial home visits from our Silvercare team, Mr. Goh began stepping out to join us at our ActiveAgeing Centre. Through a shared love for music and consistent community, he found a comfortable space to rebuild his confidence and reconnect on his own terms. ⁠

When Angel’s son Aiden was diagnosed with autism, she had many questions about his future.

Aiden had difficulty communicating and often struggled to interact with other children. However, enrolling him at New Life Preschool at Bukit Panjang gave him an inclusive environment where he could learn, interact and develop without being defined by his diagnosis.

Over time, Angel saw Aiden become more empathetic, show concern for his brother and make progress in his learning. For Angel, early intervention also changed how she saw Aiden’s future.

We were honoured to welcome Ms Makiyama Hiroe, Member of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, and Mr Yoshida, Second Secretary (Health, Labour and Welfare) at the Embassy of Japan in Singapore, to New Life Community Services' Active Ageing Centre (Care) @ Jelapang.

The visit was an opportunity to share how we support seniors in the community through active ageing programmes, care coordination, befriending, volunteer engagement and partnerships across the Bukit Panjang Age Well Neighbourhood.

We also appreciated the opportunity to exchange perspectives and learn from one another, particularly around how seniors can stay connected, supported and continue to age well in their communities.

Thank you, Ms Makiyama and Mr Yoshida, for spending time with us and for the thoughtful exchange 🙏🏻

What would make a kid choose to spend his Tuesday nights helping other kids read?⁠

At 10 years old, Alwin walked into our Woodlands centre still learning to sound out words. He was one of our Steady Readers.⁠
⁠
A year on, he's back - not as a student, but as a reading buddy. He marks homework before sessions starts, and sits with the younger kids to work through the words that trip them up, the same way someone once did for him.⁠
⁠
Nobody asked him to come back. He chose to.⁠
⁠
That's what we hope for when a child joins Steady Readers. Not just better grades, but someone who remembers what it felt like to struggle with a word, and wants to help the next kid get there too.⁠
