Experience the future of jazz in Singapore with the JASS Spotlight Series, a monthly live showcase celebrating outstanding youth jazz talent at the iconic The Jazz Loft @ Blu Jaz. Each edition spotlights a rising star in an intimate setting, championing the next generation of jazz excellence.

This August, catch the Ann Gie Quintet, led by Singaporean jazz pianist and composer Lee Ann Gie. Having discovered her love for jazz during her junior college years, she quickly became an active voice in the Singapore jazz community under the mentorship of Jeremy Monteiro, Chok Kerong and Tan Wei Xiang.

Fresh off her graduation from the Master’s program at Queens College, City University of New York, Ann Gie leads a quintet featuring her arrangements and compositions. Joining her are Ben Poh, Yap Ting Wei, Cui Yihao and Justin Ng for an evening of contemporary jazz, creative improvisation and dynamic ensemble interplay.

This July, catch JUNK, a Singapore-based jazz-funk ensemble led by classical-contemporary pianist Amery Reuben. Blending funk, Latin rhythms, New Orleans second-line grooves, progressive rock and jazz fusion, JUNK delivers high-energy, groove-driven performances that are both rhythmically tight and irresistibly danceable.

JASS Spotlight Series: JUNK

Join Jeremy Monteiro and the Jazz Association (Singapore) Ensemble, featuring Jazz Association (Singapore) Scholar Sneha Menon, for a special lunchtime concert today at 12 noon at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital atrium, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Art of Healing series.

Jeremy first performed here at Christmas 20 years ago, and now fittingly returns with a stellar quintet line-up from Jazz Association (Singapore).

The ensemble features Shawn Letts on saxophone, Ernest Tan on guitar, Eddie Jansen on bass, and Yap Ting Wei on drums. Together, they will present a selection of swinging standards and beautiful jazz ballads.

This free concert will also feature Eunice Olsen and John Lee.

All are welcome — come by, enjoy the music, and celebrate 20 years of healing through the arts.

This June, step into a night of vibrant jazz with the Sean Hong Wei Quartet, comprising some of Singapore’s and the world’s most compelling jazz talents. Led by Singapore-born saxophonist Sean Hong Wei, the band brings together a rich blend of soulful improvisation and dynamic interplay, drawing on Sean’s experiences performing with jazz legends like Reggie Workman, Billy Hart, and Billy Harper, as well as his debut album The New Jersey Sessions with Jeremy Monteiro. Sean is also a recipient of the JASS Music Scholarship 2026 to pursue a Master of Music degree in The New School, in New York, USA.

The passing of Sonny Rollins marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in the history of jazz.

He was not only one of the greatest tenor saxophonists who ever lived, but the very epitome of fierce dedication, relentless self-improvement, and fearless innovation. In the same rarefied league as the true giants of jazz, Sonny Rollins stood apart because of the astonishing spontaneity of his improvisation.

There was never a sense that he approached a solo with a fixed agenda or preconceived destination. Instead, he seemed to create in real time — soaring, searching, playful, profound, and endlessly alive in the moment. Every solo felt like a living conversation with both the music and the audience.

For all of us in the jazz world, and certainly for those of us at the Jazz Association (Singapore), Sonny Rollins was a pillar and an inspiration.

His artistry reminded us that jazz is ultimately about courage, honesty, risk-taking, and the eternal pursuit of growth.

The world has lost one of its towering musical voices, but his sound, spirit, and example will continue to inspire generations to come.

The entire jazz community mourns his passing deeply. Rest in peace, Sonny Rollins.

An alumna of the Esplanade’s Mosaic Jazz Fellows programme, Sarah has graced notable stages including the Mosaic Jazz Festival, Singapore Night Festival, and Singapore Festival of the Arts, bringing a refined yet heartfelt approach to her performances.

International Jazz Day 2026 — an easy, feel-good night in the city, celebrating 100 years of Miles Davis with live jazz, open skies, snacks, drinks, and a crowd that just got it.

Thank you to everyone who came through, brought your friends (and pets 🐶), and just took a moment to slow down and enjoy good night out.

Jazz Association (Singapore) is thrilled to have presented this concert in conjunction with vOilah! 2026 in partnership with the Embassy of France in Singapore.
