Women on a Mission WOAM Challenging Ourselves to Empower Women 🌍 Through expeditions & advocacy, we support vulnerable communities & advance gender equality.

Women on a Mission is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women and driving meaningful change in vulnerable communities worldwide. Through challenging, often life-changing expeditions, we aim to inspire resilience and strength while raising awareness and critical funds for women impacted by violence, including survivors of war and conflict, human trafficking, and domestic abuse. enturing into some of the world’s most remote and extreme environments, our team of women advocates and adventurers highlights the urgent need to support those who have faced unimaginable challenges. Whether trekking across polar ice caps, scaling the world’s highest peaks, or traversing vast deserts, our expeditions serve as powerful symbols of courage and determination in the face of adversity. In addition to our expeditions, we champion impactful advocacy efforts to advance gender equality and provide support to women survivors. Partnering with organisations and grassroots initiatives, we fund programs that address critical issues such as recovery, economic empowerment, education, and healthcare for women and girls affected by violence. By amplifying the voices of women in need and fostering global solidarity, Women on a Mission strives to create a world where every woman has the opportunity to heal, thrive, and build a better future. We believe that by challenging ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally, we can also challenge societal barriers and unlock opportunities for women everywhere to rebuild their lives.

One night. -40°C. All our clothes + sleeping bags layered on. Sleep was... optional.
The challenge isn’t the cold—it’s doing everything in it. Packing. Organizing. Staying warm enough to keep moving.
What saves us: massive campfires and this team. Flames thawing frozen spirits. Stories and laughter melting the edge off extreme.
Endless respect to our Mongolian support crew—building camp on literal ice for us, day after day. Heroes in the most extraordinary landscape.
Together, we’re unstoppable.

🏔️CLIMBING WITH PURPOSE 🏔️: 4 days - 5 peaks in solidarity with women 💕

After our deeply moving visit with Women for Women International in Bosnia—where we witnessed how purpose and resilience can transform entire communities—we set out for the mountains. ⛰️✨

Over four days, we hiked five peaks above 2000m in the stunning Dinaric Alps (Kamenac 1867m, Zelena Glava 2105m, Otiš 2097 m, Trinača 2038 m and Veliki Vilinac 2118 m).

It felt like the perfect transition: from being inspired by women rebuilding lives after the war, to immersing ourselves in a land shaped by centuries of history, culture, and resilience. The mountains were everything at once—serene, calming, demanding, and endlessly rewarding.

Each peak gifted us not just with breathtaking views, but with a reminder of why we seek challenge and connection: to grow, to reflect, and to carry these stories forward. đź’š

It was a humbling experience to visit the women’s cooperatives organized by Žene za Žene in Bosnia. 🌿

We learned how the program, which began in 1993 with just $10 a month per woman, has since empowered entire communities, bringing women together from remote rural areas after the war.

The initiatives born from these small beginnings went far beyond businesses like greenhouses and beekeeping. They extended to the next generation—providing IT training for children, purchasing computers, and even partnering with local businesses to build bus stops in the villages. A true community ecosystem was created.

Listening to the women share their stories of resilience, financial independence, and collective purpose was meaningful beyond words. As one of the 70+ women present beautifully put it:

✨ “Most people wait for the weekend with anticipation… I wait for Monday, to regroup and plan for our community, and support each other through life.”

Moments like these remind us why we created WOAM 13 years ago, and how the funds we raise for Women for Women International continue to transform the lives of thousands of women every year. đź’š

And what truly inspired us was meeting the women behind this movement, each association born out of the same spark, yet writing its own unique story. 🌸🌿🌺🌾

From homemade jams and herbal teas to digital literacy classes and advocacy campaigns, every initiative we discovered was a testament to creativity, resilience, and sisterhood.

🌸 Majska Ruža (2013) – strengthening women through health, empowerment, and entrepreneurship, producing homemade foods and crafts.

🌿 Pašinke (2016) – promoting equality and independence, with projects in agriculture, tailoring, digital literacy, and advocacy.

🌺 Zejneb (2012) – producing teas, honey, and herbal remedies while training women in business and agriculture.

🌾 Kovači (2014) – uniting unemployed women in farming, handicrafts, and community initiatives for dignity and self-sufficiency.

🌱 Gostovici (2024) – a new network of younger women, eager to cooperate and grow together.

Dreaming of an adventure with purpose? Come to Mongolia with Women on a Mission (WOAM) this March 2026.

Over 9 days, our women-led team will make a human-powered, 160 km crossing of Lake Khövsgöl (Khovsgol)—skating, biking, and hiking across a mirror-blue inland sea. We’ll sleep in gers, share fireside stories, and—if timing aligns—experience the Lake Khövsgöl Ice Festival.

Why join?
• Rare route, real teamwork — you don’t need to be a pro, just resilient and coachable.
• Fully supported — traditional horse carts + local safety crew.
• Culture + wilderness — community visits, night skies, and that glorious hot shower back in Ulaanbaatar.

This expedition is self-funded and raises support for Women for Women International, helping women survivors of war rebuild their lives.

🤝 Alone, we go fast. Together, we go far.
And in the Arctic, we go together.

These expeditions are not just physical challenges — they are powerful reminders of what happens when women come together in purpose, in grit, and in heart.

In harsh, unpredictable conditions, we learn fast:
Who needs a boost.
Who needs space.
Who brings the laugh when we need it most.
And who silently carries more weight to help the team move forward.

We each bring our own strengths, our own edges — and in this space, they all matter. No one is left behind. No one goes unnoticed.

💛 A WOAM expedition is a rare, raw space for personal growth — to push past limits in a safe, supportive environment.
To meet like-minded women from around the world, and come together not just for adventure, but for a shared cause.

We came as strangers.
We leave as sisters — with stories that will stay with us forever. And we come back… year after year!

A very special thank you to Titouan and Tristan, our inspiring guides, for their professionalism, passion, and calm confidence. You kept us safe, motivated, and taught us the little things that made all the difference — from lining up our tents perfectly, to efficient paddling, to fetching water and standing bear watch with awareness and grace. Your leadership was our backbone.

And to Bruno, our phenomenal photographer — thank you for being a quiet strength throughout the expedition. Always ready to help, to listen, and to capture every emotion and raw moment of this journey with beauty, kindness, and zero intrusion. You are truly the best.

🌍 The Arctic is melting — and the planet is listening. Are we? ❄️

During our expedition across Svalbard’s glaciers and frozen waters, we witnessed firsthand the **staggering impact of climate change**.

🔹 Glaciers retreating, leaving behind scars in the rock.
🔹 Pack ice thinning. Permafrost melting.
🔹 Wildlife more vulnerable.
🔹 The crack and thunder of ice crashing into the sea — not a sound of awe, but of *loss*.

These icy landscapes are more than majestic—they are **vital water towers of our planet**, regulating temperature, currents, and life far beyond the poles. And they are disappearing before our eyes.

Just before we left, we had the honor of meeting the **Tara Polar Station** team, as they embarked on their *first trial patrol* in this extraordinary capsule-ship designed to drift with the Arctic ice for 14 months.

🌡️ After their first Arctic mission (2006–2008), Tara is returning with a long-term vision:
**10 expeditions until 2046**, documenting transformations, biodiversity, and how we might still act — before it’s too late.

This “**space station for the North Pole**” is more than science. It’s a lifeline.

Being witness of such changes brings responsibility. And that women, united, can be powerful voices for change as well on the ecosystem we preciously discover and wish to protect.

📍Follow their journey on Instagram or https://fondationtaraocean.org/en/
🌊 Support their mission. Share the message. Let’s protect what still can be saved.

And, again, a huge thank you to **Bruno**, , our extraordinary photographer, who captured the majesty, rawness and fragility of the Arctic landscape in his superb photographs.
