🐊 World Crocodile Day | 17 June 2026

Today, we celebrate World Crocodile Day, a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about crocodile conservation and the important role these ancient reptiles play in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Having existed for around 240 million years, crocodiles have survived alongside dinosaurs and continue to serve as apex predators that help keep rivers, wetlands, and freshwater ecosystems in balance.

Here in Southeast Asia, crocodile conservation is especially important. The region is home to remarkable species such as the Philippine Crocodile (Crocodylus mindorensis), one of the world's most threatened crocodilians, as well as the Siamese Crocodile and the Saltwater Crocodile. These species face ongoing threats from habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, illegal hunting, and unsustainable exploitation.

By protecting crocodiles, we also protect the wetlands, rivers, forests, and countless other species that depend on these ecosystems.

Whether through supporting conservation organizations, protecting natural habitats, or learning more about these misunderstood reptiles, each of us can help ensure crocodiles continue to thrive in the wild.

Together, let's celebrate these incredible survivors and work toward a future where people and crocodiles can coexist. 💚🐊

🐢🌊 World Sea Turtle Day | 16 June 2026

Today, we celebrate World Sea Turtle Day, a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about the conservation of sea turtles and the challenges they face in the wild.

Held every year on 16 June, the day honors the birthday of Dr. Archie Carr, widely regarded as the father of sea turtle biology, whose pioneering research transformed our understanding of these remarkable marine reptiles.

Sea turtles have existed for more than 110 million years, surviving since the age of the dinosaurs. Yet today, six of the world's seven sea turtle species are listed as Vulnerable, Endangered, or Critically Endangered, facing threats from plastic pollution, accidental entanglement in fishing gear, habitat loss, and climate change.

These ancient ocean travelers play a vital role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems by supporting seagrass beds, coral reefs, and nutrient cycling. Protecting sea turtles means protecting the oceans that sustain both wildlife and people.

Whether you're reducing single-use plastics, participating in a coastal cleanup, choosing sustainable seafood, or simply spreading awareness, every action can help ensure a safer future for these incredible animals.

Together, let's protect our oceans and the species that have called them home for millions of years. 💙

🌊 World Oceans Day 2026 | 8 June 2026 🐠

Today, we celebrate World Oceans Day and the vital role our ocean plays in sustaining life on Earth.

This year's action theme, "Strong Marine Protected Areas for Our Blue Planet," highlights the urgent need to protect and restore marine ecosystems through effective conservation measures and the creation of well-managed Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).

The ocean regulates our climate, supports extraordinary biodiversity, provides livelihoods for millions of people, and holds immense scientific and medical potential. Yet despite its importance, only a small portion of the world's ocean is currently protected.

Global leaders have committed to protecting at least 30% of lands, waters, and oceans by 2030. Now, it is time to turn those commitments into action.

Whether you live by the coast or far inland, a healthy ocean benefits us all. Every action—from learning about marine conservation to reducing pollution and supporting sustainable practices—helps protect our blue planet for future generations.

Together, we can help safeguard the ocean and the incredible wildlife that calls it home. 🌎💙

🌍 World Environment Day 2026 | 5 June 2026 🌿

Today, we celebrate World Environment Day, one of the world's largest global platforms for environmental awareness and action.

This year's theme, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," focuses on climate change and the urgent signals our planet is sending—from rising temperatures and extreme weather events to ecosystem degradation and biodiversity loss.

But alongside these challenges, there is hope. Around the world, forests are being restored, renewable energy is expanding, cities are becoming greener, and communities are taking action for a more sustainable future.

The message is clear: every action is a signal. Whether it's reducing waste, supporting conservation efforts, restoring habitats, or sharing knowledge, our choices today help shape the future of our planet.

This World Environment Day, let's answer nature's call and act . Together, we can help build a healthier, greener, and more resilient world for generations to come. 🌱

🌏🦁 Join the 6th Joint TAG Meeting in Taipei Zoo, Taiwan!

From 25–28 May 2026, professionals from zoos, aquariums, wildlife organizations, and conservation programs around the world will gather in Taipei for the 6th Joint TAG Meeting — the first time this important gathering will be held in Asia.

For the very first time, the meeting is also open not only to TAG Chairs and Vice Chairs, but to all interested participants working in conservation, population management, species recovery, animal welfare, and related fields, creating an even broader platform for collaboration, learning, and exchange.

Hosted by Taipei Zoo, the meeting will focus on strengthening partnerships between TAGs, conservation organizations, and in situ and ex situ programs to better support global wildlife conservation efforts. Delegates can look forward to meaningful discussions, workshops, networking opportunities, and knowledge-sharing sessions highlighting emerging trends, successful collaborations, and innovative approaches in species management and conservation.

As shared by WAZA Council President David Field, this gathering is “a space for connection” where conservation professionals can come together to share openly, learn from one another, and help shape the future of collaborative conservation.

🌿 International Day for Biological Diversity | 22 May 2026 🌍

This year’s theme, “Acting locally for global impact,” reminds us that protecting biodiversity begins with small, everyday actions that collectively shape the future of our planet.

Biodiversity is the foundation of life—providing our food, water, medicine, and the ecosystems we depend on. Yet today, nearly 1 million species are threatened with extinction, making urgent action more important than ever.

Through the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the world has committed to restoring ecosystems, conserving nature, and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030, but success depends on what we do locally, now.

🌱 QUIZ TIME!
Can you guess the IUCN conservation status of these species featured in our pubmat?

🦧 Bornean Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus)
🐾 Binturong (Arctictis binturong)
🦜 Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi)
🐊 Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus)

Think you know the answer? Take a guess before checking the details on the post!

Let’s make biodiversity awareness engaging, educational, and action-driven—because every local effort creates global impact. 🌍

Yesterday, May 15, was Endangered Species Day 🐾🌍

Now on its 21st year and celebrated globally, Endangered Species Day highlights the importance of protecting threatened wildlife and the habitats they depend on.

Featured in our pubmat is the Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi), the national bird of the Philippines and one of the largest eagles in the world. Classified as Critically Endangered, only an estimated 250–750 individuals remain in the wild due to habitat loss, forest fragmentation, and hunting.

Its story reminds us why conservation efforts matter—not only for iconic species, but for the ecosystems they help sustain.

Every effort—big or small—helps build momentum for wildlife and inspires others to care for the natural world we all share. 🌿
