Ageing is often viewed through the lens of healthcare and retirement, but ageing well is also about having purpose, connection and dignity.

Philanthropy can help charities create and run programmes that keep seniors active, connected and engaged in their communities. At Community Foundation of Singapore, we work with donors who want to support these efforts through thoughtful, long-term giving.

We were also honoured to have Mr Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) & Ministry of Health, Singapore, join us as Guest-of-Honour, and even take to the field for a friendly match!

The tournament was organised by Jia Ying Active Ageing Centre (JYCSL), with technical support from the Association of Drone Soccer Singapore (ADSS), and supported by the FUN! Fundโ€”an initiative by the Community Foundation of Singapore and the Agency for Integrated Care - AIC Singapore.

Here's to creating more opportunities for active ageing, meaningful connections, and lifelong learning through innovation and sport.

How does health shape a family's ability to move forward?

That was one of the questions explored at our Collective for a Stronger Society (CSS) Donor Learning Trip in Yishun, where we announced the addition of three new health programmes supporting families living in public rental housing.

Through a candid fireside chat with community practitioners, donors and partners heard firsthand accounts of the complex challenges many families face, and why addressing issues such as health, family resilience and child development requires long-term, coordinated support.

Sherman Chan, Head of Community Programmes and Director at SATA CommHealth, shared how many lower-income seniors delay seeking medical treatment because work, caregiving responsibilities or financial constraints take priority. Through the Community Clinic @ Beach Road, his team is bringing affordable healthcare closer to residents while working alongside social service partners to provide more coordinated support.

Rachel Koh, Social Worker and KakiHealth Programme Lead at Singapore Children's Society, spoke about the realities of time poverty and competing priorities. She shared how KakiHealth @ Yishun Family Service empowers families to adopt healthier habits through community support, helping them make lasting changes in areas such as nutrition, sleep and mental well-being.

Joseph Eio, Executive Director of Filos Community Services, shared how Project P.E.E.R equips children and families with healthy habits through reading, play and parent engagement, while creating opportunities for families to build confidence and contribute back to their communities.

To further strengthen this ecosystem, CSS also welcomed You Shine by SunCare SG, a programme that provides structured after-school support for children, alongside the three programmes above. Together, CSS now supports 21 programmes that cut across health, education, employment, housing and social support.Since its launch in 2024, CSS has raised more than S$21.4 million in support of lower-income families, reaching over 30,000 beneficiaries through coordinated and sustained support. We are also grateful to a donor who has stepped forward with a S$1.2 million matching commitment to support fundraising efforts through the end of 2026.

As SMS Low Yen Ling shared, support for families cannot happen in silos. It takes donors, charities, businesses, community partners and government agencies working together to strengthen the circle of support around families and create pathways towards greater social mobility.

Our thanks to SMS Low Yen Ling, our donors, charity partners, and everyone who joined us in Yishun!
