Caritas Singapore Official social and community arm of the Catholic Church, serving all regardless of race and religion

Caritas Singapore is the official social and community arm of the Catholic Church in Singapore, and the umbrella body for 25 Catholic charities and organisations whose work touches the lives of people in need in our community regardless of race or religion. We are also a member of Caritas Internationalis, a global federation of more than 160 humanitarian organisations. The name Caritas means charity in Latin, and reminds us to live out our faith through social works. The organisations under the umbrella of Caritas Singapore support a wide array of causes such as the poor, children, youth at risk, families, prisoners, elderly, sick, people with life-limiting illnesses, people with HIV/AIDS, those with disabilities, migrant workers, people with legal and medical needs. Programmes and services for people in need in our community include financial assistance, residential care, shelters, befriending, counselling, palliative care, student care, skills training etc. While our main focus is in Singapore, we also reach out to needy groups overseas and respond to disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes.

As Season of Creation 2026 comes to a close, we pray that God will bless and multiply the environmental efforts made by our Catholic Parishes and organisations championing the Care for Creation.

In Laudato Si’, Pope Francis emphasises that living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue. It is not an optional or secondary aspect of our Christian discipleship.

May the efforts of so many encourage us to never tire and take up this mission. As we also celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi (4 Oct), who saw all creation as a gift that invites us to give praise to the Lord, let us reflect on our relationship with God, with one another, and with the earth entrusted to our care.

🙏We invite you to close with the Season of Creation Prayer and renew our convictions to learn and act.

The definition of ecological sin highlights the severity and urgency of global environmental destruction. More importantly, it calls each of us to reflect on our values, priorities and choices, and to consider how we can play our part in caring for creation. This is a shared responsibility across society. As individuals, communities, businesses and leaders, we are invited to consider how progress can go hand in hand with responsible stewardship of the environment and the wellbeing of generations to come.

True progress should not come at the expense of creation or those most vulnerable to environmental challenges. Instead, we are called to seek more sustainable ways of living, working and growing, mindful of the resources we use and the impact of our choices.

Let us ask for the grace to look closely at how our choices impact creation and the poor and vulnerable. May we experience an ecological conversion that renews our relationship with God, with creation and with one another.

We have seen the headlines about deforestation, breathed in the haze from forest fires, and felt the growing climate anxiety. How can we be a good custodian of creation so that future generations can inherit a world where people and creatures of every kind can flourish together?

Pope Francis reminds us that we can feel the damage to our earth almost as a physical ailment. Let us reflect on how to channel that care into action across our communities, workplaces, and families. Together, let us answer the call to become true custodians of creation and regenerate hope for our shared land ecosystems.

What happens beneath our waters matters to us too. 🌊🐠
Against the odds, Singapore’s coral reefs have persisted. Despite decades of reclamation, pollution, warming seas and repeated bleaching events, these reefs continue to sustain a remarkable diversity of marine life.

Their resilience is also a reminder of something deeper. Creation is a gift from God, entrusted to us not to exploit, but to care for as responsible stewards.

As we journey through this Season of Creation, may we ask ourselves: Do we share that same persistence when it comes to protecting life on Earth? How will we respond?

Water, the “source of fruitfulness, freshness, and hope,” is still a scarce, unsafe, and inaccessible resource for millions of people globally.

As the Season of Creation begins, Pope Leo XIV invites us to pray for the care of water, recognising it as a gift from God and a fundamental right that should be accessible to all.

We are invited to join in his prayer, so that humanity might learn to recognise water as 'a right without borders' and to safeguard water with gratitude, justice, and responsibility.
