Last week, TESS completed our second Stationery Donation Drive at an all girls school in Purulia, West Bengal!

Before school ended, we collected donations from our Middle School community to reuse the excess stationery that most students would end up throwing away. After school ended, we came together to organize all these items into a total of 56 pencil cases, each including over 35 items (pencils, pens, colour pencils, crayons, markers, eraser, and ruler/sharpener/notebook)! In total, we donated over 1800 stationery items!

We are happy to share that our stationery donation drive not only helped reuse material, but also gave students the necessary support to study well. All students in this school are under the poverty line, most of them come to school empty-stomach, and have to walk or cycle long distances, showing their willpower to study well. This support was necessary, and TESS looks forward to continuing to help students at this school for years to come.

Thank you to all the generous donors in our Middle School community! It is all thanks to you that this project has been made possible!

If you would like to join TESS in supporting underprivileged students, consider donating to organisations such as Pencils of Promise, School in a Bag, Metro World Child and many more. Let us know if you were able to bring your stationery from One Desk to Another!

As Ocean Action Month came to a close, TESS donated $50 sgd to Oceana to support their fundraiser. Their supportive sponsors and donors matched our gift dollar to dollar, meaning that Oceana received a total of $100 from TESS to put into their efforts to save our oceans!

We also signed multiple petitions including the following:
1.Tell Coca-Cola to stop using single-use plastic in sports stadiums for good.
2. Calling on leaders to tackle the climate crisis.
3. Telling leaders to start tackling the global climate crisis
4. Calling on the U.S. and Canadian governments to save the North Atlantic Right Whales from extinction.
5. Protecting 30% of ocean habitat by 2030

Please join us in supporting Oceana:

We sent this post soon after Ocean Action Month ended because we would like to remind everyone that Ocean Action Month is not a one month trend - it is an year long responsibility.

Let us know how you celebrated Ocean Action Month—and how you will help protect our waters moving forward—in the comments section below.

On April 22nd, Earth Day, people all around the world unite as one to protect Mother Earth. To continue our yearly tradition, TESS supported the WWF for the second year in a row by participating in Earth Hour. Once again, we reached out to members of our school community, family and friends, neighbours, and MRT and bus commuters, and we are happy to share that 165 households pledged to switch off their non-essential lights from 8:30 - 9:30 PM that day. It was enlightening to see people sign-up from Singapore, Ireland, Sri Lanka, France, India (Bhopal, Mumbai, Bangalore), and Cambodia. Our combined efforts saved 165 hours of energy for the planet, the equivalent of powering 10 ceiling fans for up to a month!

While this one hour is extremely powerful, we should also try to reduce our energy consumption during our daily lives. Switch off any non-essential lights, ACs, or fans in your house. This will reduce your carbon footprint and your electricity bill!

If you also participated in Earth Hour, congratulations! Please let us know in the comments section below.

If you missed this Earth Day, we will be sending a reminder before Earth Hour/Earth Day next year, so there is always a next time. Start today by donating to organisations like the WWF or Oceana with TESS!

With just two weeks of school remaining, TESS has chosen to wrap up with one last project: a stationery donation drive for the underprivileged kids in India! Our project's aim is to reuse our excess materials and assist students who would benefit from the extra stationery we have here at Singapore American School. After days of advertising, organising, and packing, we gathered over 50 notebooks, 400 stationery items and 50 pencil pouches! What an achievement - more than 500 stationery items reused, and over 50 underprivileged children have a notebook and stationery to write with.

Thank you once again to the generous Middle School community for all these donations and to our MS office for giving us space while we collected, sorted and packed these donations!

Please think about giving away any extra stuff that you may have to global charities like World Vision, Oxfam International, and the Salvation Army. If you do, kindly indicate so in the comments section below. Thank you!

It’s 8th June 2025, World Ocean Day! Today, TESS has donated $100 to Oceana, the largest international advocacy organisation focused solely on ocean conservation. Besides our donation to Oceana, we also signed a few of their pledges to reduce plastic and other materials from going into the oceans.

Please consider subscribing to the Oceana mailing list here as well as donating to them each year with us on World Ocean Day!

It is the second TRi-time of the 6th grade, a two-week period where each student can choose to work on a project that they are passionate about. This is my first independent project for TESS.

Many people do not fully realise the cost of convenience. The number of water bottles and cans of fizzy drinks that we consume for convenience and fun adds up to the 500 billion plastic bottles and 250 billion plastic cups and cans that are disposed of each year. Through this short movie that I created and presented to my school, I strived to convince some of you to make a small positive change. So next time you go out, please consider sustainability over convenience, and carry a reusable water bottle with you.

Please share any feedback you have for my movie in the comments below. Here is the link to the movie:

It's March 22nd, 2025, and TESS is supporting WWF in their Earth Hour initiative. We reached out to members of our school community, families and friends, neighbours, and MRT and bus commuters, and we are happy to share that 150 households pledged to switch off their non-essential lights from 8:30 - 9:30 PM. It was impressive to see people signing up from Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, France, India (Bhopal, Mumbai, Bangalore), Australia, China (Chengdu), and USA (Georgia). It goes on to show that we all care about our Earth. If you would like to join this initiative, please say so in the comments section, and we will reach out to you.

It's Chinese New Year break, and everyone is doing some Spring cleaning. We followed the tradition and took it a step further, and decided to do a beach clean-up at East Coast Beach on January 30th, 2025.

We removed 17 bags of trash from the shore, including plastic bottles to fishing nets. It was encouraging to see our families, even our 5 and 6-year-old siblings, join the clean-up.

We hope our efforts helped save some marine life, and if you would like to join us, next time you are on the beach, refrain from buying single-use plastic bottles, and dispose off your trash in the trash cans.

We have officially reached 2 years of saving the environment through TESS, and we are in Middle School! Each year, our school gives us a month to work on any project we like. During this time, we chose to host a vegetarian campaign. Through this project, we aimed to inspire people to eat more vegetarian meals and raise money for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. (SPCA)

We planned 2 different meals - lentil and noodles - and carefully prepared 40 boxes of vegetarian meals. After advertising our project, we were able to sell 25 vegetarian meals on the 25th and 26th of November in our school marketplace, and raise $159 for the SPCA.

We hope you can help us too by eating a vegetarian meal yourself. Here is the link to the recipe for tonight's dinner!

Special thanks to Mrs. Malika White for believing in our efforts and donating $100 to TESS.
