We are all highly dependent on technology for almost everything in modern living. We have, as civilisation, recognized the value of collaboration and also self-reliance. If one gives up self-reliance, usually under the notion of "convenience", over time, dependency happens. If the dependency is with a reliable, trustable entity, the arrangement can go on fruitfully for a very long time. But once that trust disappears, all bets are off.

With technology - the Internet, chip design/manufacturing, software development etc - the wider the spread of competency, the better it is for all.

Give than, what would sovereign tech look like? It is essentially all that is needed to make the technology work. The hardware, software, skills to make them work, resolve issues, perform maintenance etc. Why does it matter? For one, it brings meaning to people. People being able to work with their skills and knowledge to solve problems, instead of merely being consumers. It also builds resilience and encourages creative problem solving. It can only be a net positive.

This talk will show a snapshot of what it would take to have a Sovereign Tech - whether a nation state or a corporate or an individual.

Guest speaker: Harish Pillay, Internet Society Singapore Chapter: Technologist championing the open collaboration of ideas to build resilience in societies. Troublemaker with qualifications in engineering, computer science, AI ethics.

[INVITATION] Governing Agentic AI: Join our working session on Thu 30 April
-----------
On Thursday, 30 April, the Internet Society Singapore Chapter is hosting an in-depth read-through of the IMDA Model AI Governance Framework for Agentic AI.
The operational reality for the Internet now is Agentic AI systems capable of autonomous action, workflow management, and complex decision-making.
This shift introduces new attack surfaces and unprecedented risk management challenges. Abstract principles are no longer sufficient; we need granular, implementable governance.
We are moving past executive summaries to dissect the framework’s four core pillars:
• Assess and bound risks: Defining agent "action-space" and permissions.
• Meaningful human accountability: Moving beyond simple "human-in-the-loop" requirements.
• Technical controls: Architecture-level safety, observability, and monitoring.
• End-user responsibility: Empowering users as effective overseers.
This is a working session. The framework is a living document, and the authors are actively seeking case studies to refine it. Your professional perspective is a necessary contribution to this global standard-setting effort.
Event Details:
📅 Date: Thursday, 30 April
🕒 Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
📍 Venue: Asia Square Tower 2
(You will receive the exact location when you RSVP)
If you are a technology practitioner, researcher, or policy professional working at the intersection of emerging tech and governance, join us.
