Join us for a special screening of Brokeback Mountain presented by Proud Spaces and NBCUniversal as part of Pink Screen, a Signature Event of Pink Fest. All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Proud Spaces and our ongoing work with the LGBTQ+ community.

For one night only, we’re transforming the screening into a q***r rodeo: denim, fringe, desire, and everything in between, so come dressed for the occasion 👢⭐️🌵

The screening is followed by an intergenerational panel conversation on q***r cinema, representation, and the cultural impact of Brokeback Mountain over the past two decades. The panel brings together Anne Goh, a q***r activist who watched the film when it was first released, Michel Ho, a younger viewer from qUNI encountering it for the first time, and Leon Cheo, a director who works within the local landscape today. Moderated by filmmaker Renny Nadira, the discussion will reflect on how q***r stories have evolved onscreen, and what still feels unresolved. Are there differing thresholds applied to “foreign” versus local works that engage sensitive social issues? How do we tell stories that are deeply rooted in lived realities here?

Tickets are available on a sliding scale at $25, $50, and $75. Guests purchasing $50 and $75 tickets will also receive popcorn and soda vouchers redeemable at the Filmhouse concession stand.

Swipe to take a look at the Afternoon Session feature at Bridging Conversations – Working with LGBTQ+ Communities. We will shift from discussion into embodied, creative, and relational forms of practice.

Participants will have the opportunity to join experiential workshops and process groups exploring identity, care, connection, and reflection through movement, writing, art-making, and facilitated dialogue.

Led by Rosie McGowan, David Gan, and Hui Fang, these sessions invite practitioners to engage not only intellectually, but also personally: through spaces grounded in creativity, peer support, and shared inquiry.

Our Morning Session at Bridging Conversations – Working with LGBTQ+ Communities will feature keynote presentations exploring care, community, identity, and the evolving realities of LGBTQ+ lives across generations.

We’re honoured to welcome Chin Chuanfei and Shan Menon, whose work across counselling, social work, education, and community advocacy continues to shape conversations around ethical, affirming, and community-grounded practice.

From questions of intergenerational experience to reflections on resilience and q***r community spaces, these sessions invite practitioners to reflect deeper on what meaningful care can look like.

Our hands carry and shape more than we realise—imagination, memory, care, labour, and possibility.

On 23 May, we invite you to spend a day noticing what we do with them: how we hold, make, and connect with one another. Moving through moments of conversation, reflection, and hands-on activities, this is a space to slow down and to be present with ourselves, with others, and with the thankless work of our hands.

Join us at Proud Spaces. You'll be In Good Hands.
