Bedok Community Responders Recognised for Heroic Efforts
Bedok C2E/CERT members, Bedok Community Centre (CC) staff and members of the public (MOP) attended the SCDF Community First Responder Awards (CFRA) and Community Lifesaver Awards (CLA) ceremony at SCDF 2nd Division on 7 October 2026.
They were recognised by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for their heroic efforts in two separate incidents at Bedok Community Centre.
🔥 Vegetation Fire Incident
On 7 Dec 2025 at around 3.45pm, while a blood donation session was in progress at the Bedok CC Multi-Purpose Hall, a vegetation fire broke out at the carpark.
The fire was spotted by two members of the public. One immediately called 995 to alert SCDF, while the other rushed to the CC counter to seek assistance.
Upon receiving the alert, Bedok C2E/CERT members and CC staff promptly proceeded to the scene with fire extinguishers and pails of water. Working together, they successfully extinguished the fire before the arrival of SCDF.
Their prompt actions, courage and teamwork prevented the fire from spreading and demonstrated the importance of vigilance and emergency preparedness.
❤️ Cardiac Arrest Incident
On 6 July 2026 at around 9.20pm, several basketball games were taking place at the Bedok CC basketball court when a 48-year-old man who was resting on a bench suddenly collapsed and struck his face on the ground.
One of the players immediately called 995, while another rushed to the CC counter to seek assistance. CC staff promptly retrieved the AED and brought it to the scene. At the same time, first responders alerted through the MyResponder app also arrived shortly afterwards.
The Community First Responders (CFRs) and CC staff immediately began CPR and used the AED to deliver the necessary shocks. Through their timely and coordinated response, the man was successfully resuscitated and subsequently conveyed to hospital by ambulance.
💪 Strengthening Community Emergency Preparedness
These two incidents highlight the importance of peace-time lifesaving skills training, emergency preparedness and community readiness.
It is vital that we continue to widen and strengthen the network of first responders in our community by equipping more residents with lifesaving skills and the confidence to respond when emergencies occur.
Together, we can build a safer, more resilient and better-prepared community! 👍💪
