𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗥𝗢𝗬𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲

On 17 April 2026, close to 30 hotel representatives from the Hotel Human Capital Advisory Committee, Singapore Tourism Board, Workforce Singapore - WSG and FDAWU - Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union participated in an insightful learning journey at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering, Singapore.

At the session, Mr Kung Teong Wah, Cluster General Manager shared on the hotel’s job redesign and technology adoption initiatives. Some of the initiatives included:
📊Job redesign innovation to develop specialist roles focusing on data analytics and operational efficiency
📞Leveraging AI to automate guest calls
🌱Harnessing AI for horticultural operations management
💬Use of a unified communication platform
4️⃣Implementation of 4-day work week for front office

With a comprehensive technology roadmap in place, the hotel is continuously looking at ways to improve technology integration throughout its operations. During the tour, participants were also given a demonstration of some of the technologies adopted. This included the use of AGV for luggage delivery, digital check-in kiosks, visitor management system, key management system, digital lockers, etc.

It was indeed an inspiring afternoon as participants walked away with new ideas on how they can embrace innovation and workforce transformation within their hotel operations.

The first SHA/NFEC Fire Safety Dialogue for the year 2026, chaired by Ms Margaret Heng, Executive Director of SHA and Mr Chris Tan, Co-Chairman, Commercial Premises Committee, NFEC was held on 26 March 2026.

Some 70 representatives from 60 hotels attended the meeting which took place at M Hotel Singapore City Centre.

A big thank you to our long-standing partners from National Fire And Emergency Preparedness Council - NFEC and Singapore Civil Defence Force - SCDF for their strong support.

Our appreciation also goes to CPT Aw Shi Yun, CPT Muhammad, WO Md Fadzli and Mr Chris Tan for their informative presentations.

🌟𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 @ 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐳 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐞

At Andaz Singapore, the role of Hotel Experience Curator reflects how hotels are evolving to create more meaningful, locally rooted guest experiences through placemaking and partnerships.

By embracing skills-based hiring, they welcomed Zul, a former cabin crew, into the team — and the results speak for themselves. Through the Career Conversion Programme (CCP) for Tourism Professionals, Zul underwent structured on-the-job training across Front Office, F&B and Marketing, building capabilities in areas like placemaking and consumer intelligence.

Today, Zul is designing meaningful guest experiences, forging partnerships and bringing fresh perspectives that enhance the overall guest journey.

SHATEC’s 40th Graduation is one such milestone.

As the training arm of the Singapore Hotel Association, SHATEC has played a significant role in shaping generations of hospitality professionals who continue to contribute to our industry today.

For SHA, this occasion is a reminder of the importance of investing in people and of our shared responsibility, as an industry, to continue uplifting and developing the workforce for the future.

We are proud of how far SHATEC has come, and even more encouraged by the journeys that will continue beyond this milestone.

As SHATEC’s 40th Graduation drew to a close, Ms Margaret Heng delivered a deeply personal and reflective address, one that resonated strongly with many of us present.

As both Chief Executive of SHATEC and Executive Director of the Singapore Hotel Association, Ms Heng’s journey has been closely intertwined with the growth of SHATEC and the wider hospitality industry over the past four decades. As a mentee of SHATEC's late founder, Mr Pakir Singh, her words carried the values and spirit that have shaped generations of hospitality professionals.

Her address was a timely reminder that beyond programmes and institutions, it is the people, the mentorship and the shared commitment to excellence that define our industry.

For SHA, this is a legacy we continue to uphold together with our members and partners — as we support and develop the next generation of hospitality talent.

Back by popular demand, the 2nd run of SHA’s Career Health Workshop – “Career Conversations That Matter” took place on 26 March 2026 at Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium - and the momentum continues! 🚀

This time, we went full-day - with more hands-on learning, roleplays and real hospitality scenarios to help participants turn everyday conversations into meaningful career development moments.

👥 22 participants from 12 organisations, including HR leaders, Heads of Department and Line Managers, came together to explore how structured career conversations can drive engagement, retention and growth.
