This includes posts that contain the following:

• Trolling, spamming, fraudulent or deliberately misleading posts and comments

As Singapore's kidney transplant waiting list reaches a 10-year high, more patients are facing long waits for a suitable kidney. For medically suitable patients, living donor kidney transplants can offer a second chance at life, with better outcomes and a shorter wait.

For Tan Xin Yi, a kidney donated by a close friend gave her a new lease on life after complications from dialysis. For Badrun Nisa, a kidney from her mother meant a chance to look forward again. Their stories are powerful reminders of the life-changing impact a living donor kidney donation may bring.

To help more patients explore this option, NKF is working with healthcare partners to strengthen public education and support earlier transplant conversations. We are also training around 100 "transplant champions", including nurses, social workers, kidney donors and recipients, to address patients’ questions and connect interested patients and families with hospital transplant teams. In addition, NKF is reviewing its Kidney Live Donor Support Fund to further ease the financial burden on donors and recipients, making the transplant journey more accessible for those in need.

🎶 When You Believe: A Chorus of Hope - 50 Years of Living Donor Kidney Transplant

For someone living with kidney failure, a successful kidney transplant can offer better long-term survival and quality of life, restore greater independence, enabling more opportunities for work and family life.

This year marks 50 years since Singapore's first living donor kidney transplant. NKF is glad to co-organise an evening of music and get-together with our friends from SGH, NUH, MOH, VOS, patients, families and partners. We are honoured to have Dr Hamid Razak, Member of Parliament for West Coast-Jurong West GRC and Member of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Health, to join in this personally meaningful event.

Through his sharing, Mr Teng Wei Kiat showed us what a father's love looks like - by giving up his kidney without hesitation so his son can lead a new lease of life with a bright future ahead. Ms Badrun Nisa expressed how important family support was when navigating uncertainty and dialysis complications. She is grateful for her mum's gift of love through the kidney transplant. Both pairs of donors and recipients represent the excellent care that NUH and SGH provide their patients embarking on the kidney transplant journey.

We look forward to a future where conversations on transplant can start early, and persons with kidney failure may explore transplant as a possible treatment option.

When Mr Alan Lim began dialysis at the NKF Dialysis Centre Supported by San Wang Wu Ti Religious Society (Sengkang Community Hospital) in May 2024, kidney failure was unfamiliar territory for him. The care team's calmness and professionalism, especially in moments that could easily cause worry, help him feel at ease. He also appreciates how attentive the nurses are to his needs and wellbeing.

Walking is underrated. Not because it burns the most but because you'll still be doing it in six months. 🚶

What makes it work is progression, not intensity. Five minutes more than last week. 1 kilometre further. A pace where you can talk but not sing. 🎤

Every walk nudges your blood sugar and blood pressure down a little. Unchecked, those two can cause kidney failure, and they do it quietly over the years. So the counter-move has to be quiet and repeated too.
