What happens in the space between what we hope to facilitate and what actually unfolds in the art therapy room? 🎨

The Red Pencil (Singapore) and MA Art Therapy at LASALLE College of the Arts, University of the Arts Singapore, are co-organising Between Intention and Uncertainty, a reflective talk by MA Art Therapy alumna Kit Louis.

Kit is an art psychotherapist, the founder of Art Storey, and a long-time collaborator of ours. She will share selected encounters and artworks from her clinical work with The Red Pencil (Singapore). The talk explores questions every practitioner meets:

πŸ’­ When do we guide, and when do we follow?
πŸ’­ What do we notice when the process moves somewhere unexpected?

The sharing will be followed by a Q&A and open discussion.

In Art in Action, our regular series, we shine a light on the incredible credentialed art therapists we collaborate with at The Red Pencil (Singapore).

Mei Er is a credentialed art therapist with a background in architecture, who enjoys intertwining her work with underprivileged and marginalised communities. She integrates person-centred, trauma-informed and psychodynamic principles in her clinical practice across community, forensic and non-profit settings, supporting individuals across different stages of life who are navigating adversity, grief and loss, and mental health challenges.

After about a decade in architecture, she made art therapy her second career and pursued her MA in Art Therapy as a recipient of The Red Pencil (Singapore) Scholarship. In her own artmaking, Mei Er engages in introspective exploration, mapping personal journeys through patterns and rhythms.

"It is the privilege of journeying alongside my clients for a part of their path, and witnessing moments of change, insight and resilience. Sometimes these moments are subtle. It could be a client seeing something from a different perspective, finding words for an experience, or recognising a strength they had overlooked." ❀️

We are happy and honoured to have been part of the Carnival at Aperia Mall, held in celebration of the United Nations International Day of Older Persons and supported by CapitaLand Hope Foundation. ❀️

At our art therapy station, seniors created their own Memory Pouches, filled with fragrant spices such as cinnamon and star anise. Each scent sparked fond memories and lively conversations. It was a joy to see the seniors so engaged, sharing stories and enjoying the creative process together. πŸ‘

A heartfelt thank you to the CapitaLand staff volunteers who joined us at our activity station. Your warmth and encouragement made the experience all the more meaningful for our seniors!

The Red Pencil (Singapore) is delighted to stand alongside CapitaLand and fellow community partners in reducing social isolation and helping our seniors stay connected and engaged within the community. 😊
