Ricky has been a valued member of the Regional Advisory Board, bringing more than 30 years of experience across the semiconductor test and measurement industry. His deep industry experience and continued engagement with SEMI Southeast Asia will be valuable as the Regional Advisory Board works with industry leaders to strengthen Southeast Asia’s semiconductor ecosystem and support the region’s long-term growth.

SEMI was pleased to support NTU Semiconductor Day 2026, a semiconductor technology innovation and career fair hosted by the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological University Singapore.

The event brought together industry, academia, students, researchers and faculty for a full day of exchange on semiconductor technology, innovation and career pathways.

As part of SEMI’s participation, Mr. 段定夫Andy Tuan, Senior Consultant, Market Intelligence, SEMI, presented “SEMI Market Trends: From AI Demand to Fab Reality - Equipment, Capacity, and Materials Outlook”, sharing perspectives on the market forces shaping fab investment, equipment demand, capacity planning and materials growth.

We would also like to thank our member companies for supporting the event through their participation at the career fair booths, helping students gain greater visibility into the exciting opportunities available across the semiconductor ecosystem.

𝗡𝗫𝗣 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝗮

NXP Semiconductors, a member of SEMI, has broken ground on a new assembly and test factory in Petaling Jaya, expanding its long-standing manufacturing footprint in Malaysia. The new facility will build on NXP’s existing A&T site and is expected to begin ramping production in the first quarter of 2028, with overall output projected to more than double once fully operational.

The expansion comes as demand grows for intelligent and connected technologies, strengthening the need for secure, high-quality products and more resilient supply chains. With approximately 900,000 sq ft of total production space upon completion, the highly automated smart factory further reinforces Malaysia’s role in next-generation semiconductor manufacturing and the region’s broader advanced manufacturing ecosystem.

Ms. Xiao Qing brings strong experience in strategic people and organisational initiatives, supporting workforce capability, leadership effectiveness and business transformation across Sandisk’s Global Operations portfolio. Her work spans succession planning, workforce capability building, performance management and culture transformation across complex operations, engineering and supply chain environments in Asia and beyond.

As Southeast Asia moves further up the semiconductor value chain, the workforce conversation must go beyond engineering graduates alone. The industry also needs technicians, operators, process engineers, supply chain professionals, data scientists, commercial talent and many others who can support advanced manufacturing, design, packaging and innovation.

In a recent feature by The Edge Malaysia, SEMI’s Shari Liss, Vice President of Global Workforce Development and Initiatives, shared perspectives on one of the region's most pressing priorities: building and retaining the talent needed to sustain long-term industry growth.

Shari highlighted the importance of strengthening the talent pipeline from an earlier stage, deepening industry-academia collaboration, creating clearer career pathways and sharing stronger human stories about the purpose and impact of semiconductor careers.
