Today, on World Alzheimer’s Day, St John Singapore stands with people living with dementia, their families and caregivers.

With patience, understanding and the right support, people living with dementia can continue to experience dignity, purpose and meaningful connection.

At the St John Dementia Centre, we provide a safe and supportive environment through structured activities, social engagement and daytime care. Our services also give caregivers greater peace of mind and support throughout their caregiving journey.

No one should face dementia alone.

Dementia is more than occasional forgetfulness. It is not a normal part of ageing.

It can affect memory, communication, judgement and a person’s ability to complete familiar everyday tasks.

Some signs to look out for include:

• Repeatedly forgetting recent events
• Difficulty completing familiar tasks
• Confusion about time or place
• Difficulty finding the right words
• Changes in mood, behaviour or judgement

Experiencing one of these signs does not necessarily mean that a person has dementia. The concern is when changes become persistent, progressively worsen and begin to affect daily life.

If you notice these changes in yourself or someone close to you, speak to a doctor for a proper assessment.

Greater understanding helps us respond with patience, dignity and support.

Would you know what to do if someone suddenly collapsed?

It could happen at home, at work or while you are out with family and friends. Before medical help arrives, you may be the first person able to help.

First-aid training teaches you how to recognise an emergency, perform CPR, use an AED and respond calmly.

You do not need to be a healthcare professional. You only need to be willing to learn.

Learn first aid today. Be ready when someone needs you.

To Members Of The Public;

Dear Members of the Public,

We have taken note of the feedback, comments, and concerns raised regarding our fundraising event publicity materials.

We would like to assure everyone that this is a genuine and legitimate charity fundraising initiative. We appreciate and understand the public's vigilance in highlighting matters of concern, particularly where charitable activities and public trust are involved.

We acknowledge that the earlier publicity material contained inadvertent inaccuracies relating to the email address and venue name, which should correctly reflect SAFRA. We recognise that these errors understandably caused confusion and concern among members of the public. Upon identifying these issues, we immediately commenced rectification efforts and are currently preparing revised and corrected materials.

As this initiative is supported by volunteers who have kindly stepped forward to assist with publicity and event coordination efforts, certain communication inaccuracies occurred unintentionally during the preparation process. There was absolutely no intention to mislead members of the public.

We sincerely apologise for any confusion caused and thank everyone for their understanding, patience, and continued support. We remain fully committed to transparency and will continue to provide clarifications where necessary.

Yours faithfully,

Professor Dr Sean P Rozario, KStJ
Chairman, National St John Council of Singapore

The Hospital Attachment Programme is one of the highlights of the year for the cadets. Thank you Singapore General Hospital for hosting the cadets and for all your staff who tirelessly and graciously shared their knowledge and professionalism.
So many of our students over the years are inspired to go into nursing and healthcare careers because of these stints and their time spent in seeing how they can impact society.
