At the SGH Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology's 40th Anniversary Community Outreach, we had the pleasure of meeting expectant parents, families and members of the public to share more about cord blood banking. Through conversations, interactive games and hands-on demonstrations, we hope visitors left with a better understanding of how cord blood can make a difference.

July marks Cord Blood Awareness Month, a time to recognise the importance of cord blood and the hope it may offer.

Collected safely after birth, cord blood is rich in stem cells that may be used in the treatment of blood cancers, immune deficiencies and other serious diseases. Globally, more than 60,000 cord blood transplants have been performed, bringing hope to patients and families around the world.

Here's to raising awareness of a gift that begins at birth and could make a difference for years to come!

In conjunction with World Blood Donor Day, our colleagues spent the day at BloodBeats 2026 at Bishan Community Club, connecting with residents from all walks of life. From curious children to supportive grandparents, every conversation was an opportunity to raise awareness about cord blood donation and its potential to give hope to patients in need of a stem cell transplant. It was especially heartwarming to meet several cord blood donor families who stopped by to say hi!

Many thanks to , and Isabelle and team from for having us there 💖 Together, we can inspire more families to consider giving the gift of hope through cord blood donation.

SCBB was invited to be part of From Bump To Baby, a forum organised by the National University Centre for Women and Children, where we connected with parents-to-be. During the session, we had the opportunity to discuss with expectant parents on the cord blood banking options available to them, and helped them to understand the differences between public donation and family banking.

We were also heartened to hear how Dr Abhiram Kanneganti, one of the event speakers, and his family decided to donate their baby’s cord blood to offer hope for other patients in need 💕

We are grateful for the chance to engage with families at this exciting stage of life. Thank you for having us there!

When Fion was expecting her first child, she learnt about cord blood donation from a SCBB Donor Coordinator. Although she and her husband had considered private storage, they realised that donating could make this precious medical resource available to others in need.

Years later, when she was expecting her second child, donating cord blood was the first thing on her mind.

Cord blood donation is a small act that can enable someone else to live on. Learn more at: for.sg/scbb-publicdonation.
