What an inspiring and laughter-filled afternoon at Beyond Small Talk: From Strangers to Stories.
Through the simple yet powerful medium of tabletop board games, participants stepped away from screens and into genuine human connection — where conversations flowed naturally, laughter was shared freely, and strangers quickly became teammates and storytellers.
Guided by our workshop facilitator, Distinguished Toastmaster Benjamin Leow, participants explored how play can become a meaningful platform for communication, connection, and confidence-building. Beyond the games themselves, the session offered valuable insights into the psychology and history of board games, while creating opportunities to practise real-life communication skills in a fun and relaxed setting.
From breaking the ice and navigating group dynamics to listening actively and responding spontaneously, every interaction reminded us that meaningful connection does not need scripts — only presence, openness, and a willingness to engage.
As technology continues to reshape the way we communicate, this workshop was a timely reminder that our most valuable human skills remain our ability to connect authentically, empathise deeply, and be fully present with one another.
