We provide performances and workshops to suit your events or celebrations. Enquire@ Kg Chai Chee Community Club Tel: 62419878. The Kampong Chai Chee Community Centre Management Committee set up Kampong Chai Chee CC Daiko, the Japanese Drum (Taiko) group, in December 1997. It was the first of its kind to be set up at a community centre in Singapore. As the team progress, our passionate, amateur dru
mmers then formed a taiko interest group in year 2000. We have done over 200 performances both locally and overseas. These included major national events such as the National Day Parade 2000 - Carnival At The Bay, Chingay Parade in the year 2001 & 2003, PA’s Got Talent@Chingay 2011, Chingay@Heartlands in 2007 and 2014, Chingay Parade 2016, Singapore Arts Festival 1998 & 1999. We have also gained experiences and exposures in numerous collaborations with Mediacorp Pte Ltd. Overseas performances include Club Med Cherating in Kuantan, Malaysia in 2001, Yokohama, Japan in 2003. In February 2009, the Daiko team was invited to perform at Kanazawa University of Ishikawa Prefecture and also in Wajima, Japan. Indeed, it was a great honor to be the only Singapore team performing along with other renowned groups from USA and Japan. Our hard work and tenacity won wild applauses in numerous events both locally and overseas. Challenging ourselves to hone further drumming skills, some of us had undergone overseas trainings in Japan regularly. We have been trained in Japan under Hatsumi Ishikura sensei of Kantou Abaredaiko in 2003 and 2007. A special training on okedo by Hiroyuki Hayashida sensei in 2007 followed with a brief sting experiencing taiko playing with flute and percussions at Araumaza Taiko (a Japanese Folk Entertainment Performance Company). In the year 2012, some members bravely attended a 5-day intensive training/workshop with Art Lee sensei of Tokara Wadaiko in Nagano, Japan. The years of 2013, 2014 and 2016 were extremely exciting with many of us undergoing intensive trainings both locally and also in Nagano, Japan, with Katsuji Kondo sensei, an ex-drummer of the world-renowned taiko group, KODO. An active interest group, we aim to promote and showcase traditional styles of Japanese drumming. We also seek to explore new musical dimensions such as incorporation of other culturally unique musical forms, composing, creating our own music and even dance to the beats of taiko.
